Ombre Hair

I get bored with my hair alot. Especially when I'm trying to grow it out. I don't want to cut it- I already did the bang thing... so the only thing to change is the color. I used to be alot more adventurous when it came to hair color... Ive done everything from blond to fire engine red. But as Ive gotten older Ive grown VERY comfortable with my DARK brown/black hair color. It has seriously taken me forever to decide to change the color again.Ive been eye-ing the Ombre hair trend. Ombre hair is where the ends are a few shades lighter than the roots. It is usually a gradual transition of color- even though Ive seen some done where there is no transition at all. After browsing a few pictures I decided I wanted something noticeable, but not to drastic. AND I wanted to be able to do it myself. I'm such a control freak. It makes no sense... I wont trust a trained and experienced stylist- but I'd do it myself... me- who has no training or experience. Sometimes I don't even understand me. But anyway. To keep it not looking too strange I also decided to add some very subtle highlights.

So here's the process I went through.

I originally purchased an all in one bleach kit from Walmart... I used the Loreal SuperBlond Blue. The Blue is supposed to counteract any brassiness from the Bleaching. An hour of this stuff on my hair made hardly any difference what so ever. You could see the difference... If I told you about it, and you stared at me for about 6 minutes. Not exactly what I was going for... So I let my hair rest for a day and went to Sally's and purchased a powder bleach- with the blue tint again to counteract any brassiness, a bottle of 30 developer and a light ashe brown hair color. I wasn't sure if I would use the brown hair color, but I had it just in case the color lifted a little wonky. I put the bleach on the bottom 3-4 inches of my hair and very haphazardly streaked a few places so it would blend better. After about 15 minutes I painted on a few highlights. I did this freehand which made me incredibly nervous- but I'm an artist for goodness sake- I should be able to handle a few streaks right. After 30 minutes I checked my hair and it hadn't lightened quite to where I wanted it... so for another 30 minutes, I checked it every 10 to see where it was. After a full hour it didn't appear to be as light as I wanted it but I was tired and ready for bed. SO I rinsed my hair, conditioned it, and took a blow dryer to it. To my surprise it had lightened perfectly... almost. It was as light as I wanted it- but it was RED! A really pretty red- but none the less red. I ALMOST decided to leave the red- but went ahead and added the ashe brown dye the following morning. I have to say I am super pleased with the results. It takes a bit of getting used to- just because I haven't changed my hair in a while.

Hana Hair Dryer

Recently I was contacted to do a review on a hairdryer for Misikko.com . Ive never been "asked" to do a review before and I feel a little hesitant about doing them. Only because I want to be 100% honest, but I also don't want to give a negative review on something and hurt anyones company. Usually if I use a product I don't like in particular... I just don't mention it. However, I figured this would be a good opportunity... I mean its a hair dryer- how good or bad can a hair dryer be- it blows air right.

In agreeing to do this review... I agree to give you my 100% honest opinion of the product... good, bad, or indifferent!

I received my package from Misikko and was immediately floored by their service. My package arrived only a few days after I agreed to do the review. My package held alot more than the agreed blow dryer. My package had TONS of goodies and sweet notes- not to mention it was all beautifully packaged. I could definitely see myself dealing with this company again in the future just based on their amazing and very personal customer service.

The dryer I was asked to review was the HANAair Professional Hair Dryer. The dryer has Ion technology, turmoline and titanium technology, silver nanotechnology and claims to " dry your hair up to 60% faster maintaining natural shine while promoting healthy luxurious hair."

I had previously been using a higher end home use dryer and was very satisfied with it. I had never, however, used a salon quality dryer. Upon opening the box that held the dryer, the first thing i noticed was the cord. This wasn't the normal dryer cord that I was used to. This cord was MUCH longer and didn't tangle and get twisted as easily. Major points for that one. The dryer also looked very nice. It was shiny black and looked super sleek. It only came with one attachment- a concentrator. The dryer had 2 switches and a button on the handle... all very easy to use while drying your hair. This has always been a major issue for me. I hate having to reposition the dryer- blowing air into my face- just so I can see and get a good enough grip to turn the dryer off. These knobs were easy enough to use that I didn't have to do that. It has 2 fan speeds and 3 heat settings along with a cool shot button that you can depress and leave on- which I like. I was concerned with this being a salon quality dryer that I could fry my hair due to the high heat setting (since I really have no self control and always feel the need for it to be the hottest it can be). But this wasn't the case... even the hottest setting wasn't dangerously hot.

The first time I used the dryer I was amazed at how quickly my hair dried. I have longer hair which is naturally curly. The longer it gets, the longer I spend drying it and trying to coax the curls out. The fan speeds were actually very forceful... which could be a positive or a negative, depending on what your preference is. The low fan setting about matched the highest fan setting on my old dryer. I didn't notice a major difference in the condition or shine of my hair- but my hair tends to look pretty healthy and shiny no matter what I do to it. It definitely didn't look worse, but I wouldn't say it looked significantly better. The only negatives that I would say are present was that its a bit too forceful to deal with curly hair. My universal diffuser didn't fit on the nozzle and the force of the air blew out some of my curl. I'm sure with a bit of adjustment to how I use the dryer and a new diffuser I can work this issue out. The price was a bit of a negative for me as well. Now, I'm cheep so this may not be an issue for you. If I HAD the money to spend on the dryer- I would definitely say it is worth the money. Plus, Misikko gives you a good deal off the retail price- so its really not that bad. Overall I'd give the Hana a 4 out of 5 stars.

Honey Glycerin Face Bar- My favorite face wash HANDS DOWN!

I'm super blessed to not have any skin issues so something like this is perfect for me. It leaves my face feeling soft and squeaky clean. Not to mention its super cheap. I have normal to oily skin which is a little more on the normal side so I don't need anything MAJOR moisturizing. I wouldn't recommend if you have dryer skin.

Bath and Body Works Aromatherapy Body Lotion in Jasmin Vanilla

I LOVE this! Heres the story why... On my honey moon- silly me forgot to pack a few basics, like a brush and shampoo. So we drove into the nearest city, stopped at the mall and picked up some shampoo at the Bath and Body Works... It just so happened to be the Jasmin Vanilla Aromatherapy Shampoo. Bath and Body discontinued the sent very shortly after that. We kept the remaining bottle of shampoo and would occasionally open it up and give it a wiff. If reminded us of our honey moon. About a year or so ago I saw that Bath and Body brought the sent back... Now I can smell like "honey moon" whenever I want.

Any lip color is a bit of a stretch for me. I usually don't wear anything on my lips because I usually "eat" it right off. But this color is great. Its great for my cool toned complexion and it just something a bit bright and different for the spring season.

Yes, again! I know I know... All aboard the weight loss train. I have a life time dieters pass and I'm once again making a trip. Hopefully this one wont be round trip.

I sat down with myself last week and had a stern talkin to... myself. I can blame my weight gain on meds, health situation or whatever- but fact of the matter is there IS still something I can do to loose this weight until the situation gets under control. So I made myself a new eating plan, and a new exercise plan- which I wasn't able to adhere to this morning thanks to the rain. (yet another excuse already creeping into my diet trip).

SO... after some thought I have decided that I'm going back on a vegetarian kick. I did the vegetarian thing years ago... once for about 6 months, then again for about 3 months... each time falling off the wagon and giving up. This time I've decided to give myself a little bit of slack, allowing myself meat if I really really desire it. I read an article in Self, or Shape... (I dunno, one of those S magazines) about becoming a flexitarian. It really gave me a sense of freedom in the whole situation. Each time I've done the vegetarian thing I still keep fish and eggs in my diet and I do plan to stick with that plan this time. I am also not "forbidding" myself from an occasional steak or chicken finger. This makes getting back on the wagon alot easier when I fall of- and I will fall off I'm sure. Now instead of giving up, beating myself up and feeling like a failure- I know its ok, it was in the plan, and I can move on with my vegetarian self and my head held high. Hopefully with this thought process I will be able to make the vegetarian lifestyle a permanent fixture in my life.

You see, I need boundaries... clear defined boundaries... and a restrictive diet usually helps me be more diligent with my choices. Thats why I did so well before... but then there is the occasional craving for a nice juicy steak, or pepperoni loaded pizza.

So as I embark, plan in hand, I ask that you think of me... pray for me... whatever it is that you do for me... I have got to get this weight off!

I'm debating on doing the whole weekly check in, weigh-in, and photo... If you like that sort of thing and would like to read postings on my weight loss train wreck, um I mean ride, just let me know in the comments.

Well, its been a while since Ive done a closet project... its been a while since Ive done anything fashion related really. I'm thinking I may do something- maybe not a whole month long closet project- but something more like a 30 of 30- but making it more like a 10 of 10 or 15 of 15... I'll have to put more thought into it- but I'm definitely falling into a rut... its pretty much clockwork right now... EVERY Wednesday I wear a velour tracksuit since I only work a half day and don't really see anyone... pretty much EVERY Monday I wear a pair of lounge pants, tanktop and hoodie... since well... its Monday. You can pretty much count on me looking presentable on Tuesday's and Friday's since those are the days that I will likely see someone other than my boss and my husband... and Thursdays are always a surprise but usually consist of the same pair of jeans. Depressing isn't it.

Well I have updated my look a little... So Im at least a little bit interesting. I once again have bangs.

Wow, its been a while.

Its hard to believe I haven't posted since June. What a whirl wind the past few months have been. The last post was posted just hours before I had to drive down to Atlanta as my mother was being put on life support for respiratory failure. Thus began some of the most crazy months of my life. Mom is doing well now. She was in the hospital for about 3 or 4 weeks. She has since been in and out several times. She was back on life support right before Thanksgiving, but is now home and doing well. Since June Ive also started my own Jewelry business making hand made wire jewelry. This was a major deal for me. I decided not to finish school because of so many things being up in the air. Plus, it was just really hard for me to imagine myself in a career that wasn't "creative". Ive also had a few health issues myself, but we are conquering them as we speak. Thank you to everyone that has stuck with my blog. I appreciate your support during my absence. Summer Black Out: Day 1.

When I read about Already Pretty's "Summer Black-out" I just knew I needed to participate. Black is my staple color, and most definitely my security blanket. I love the way Black makes me feel... more sophisticated and classy. But it has definitely become my crutch. Check out her blog for details and rules. Basically, its no black for a week... which is stretching me!!

I've worn a version of this outfit before. I love this green skirt. I picked it up thrifting one day for around 3 bucks. I paired it with a basic white tank, bronze belt and bronze sandals. I know you cant see it in the picture, but I also wore the most adorable green rosette earrings that match perfectly!

So I'm finally dressing in real clothes and not my pajama pants and tee shirts. I spent the past week sick with some weird sinus something or other. I think I worked a total of 15 hours last week. But I'm so happy to say, I feel Well! Today I donned my LBD. I don't wear this dress very often. It always feels so weird when I put it on. I purchased this dress specifically for my Papa's funeral. Now, every time I pull it out I think of him. Part of me feels like I should just retire the dress and not wear it... but then again, its a nice reminder of what a special person he was every time I wear it.

I have a super fabulous weekend coming up. The hubbs and I are driving down to S. Georgia on Friday to spend a few days with his family in Albany. Then Sunday we will pack up and head to Florida to spend some time with my family in the Daytona area. I'm super stoked. There is just something about that salty air that calls to me every year or so.

Dressing my Best... On my day off.

Its a little ironic that I decided to participate in the "Dress Your Best" feature that the fabulous girls over at Academichic have put together on my day off. Ya know, the day when you just kinda float around and don't even really need to get dressed at all. But the more I thought about, what a more perfect day. My body is at its best on all days, not just the days I dress for work.

I am so in love with the concept of this feature. Please jog over to their blog and read about it! I decided to include all 5 of my favorite body parts in one post. They may not appear highlighted in this outfit... but they were definitely highlighted to me in one way shape or form on this day.

1. My skin. There are many body parts that I've battled with, but my skin has always been on my side. I've never struggled with acne. I can count the amount of pimples Ive gotten in the past 5 years on one hand. I wish I could attribute this to an amazing cream, great cleansing habits or something of the sorts... but no folks, its all genetics. My father has dark, clear skin. And I thank him for giving this to me. My mother has pale porcelain skin that freckles and NEVER tans... From her I got my freckles, which I adore. For this reason, I love my skin.

2. My gi-hugic (yes that's a word I made up) calves. I have a love hate relationship with my calves. I used to dance and cheer when I was younger and have always had a thick lower body. For a long while I was very insecure about my lower body... but it has always been strong. It has always supported me. This truth was more than evident Tuesday morning during spin class and Wednesday afternoon during Yoga. I'm thankful for my strong calves.

3. My small waist. No matter how much weight I put on, my waist has always been more on the tiny side. I have a small frame and my rib cage is about as big around as a 7 year olds. This has always played to my advantage. Having always been over weight, I had "curves" on my side. I've always been proud of my curves.

4. My booty. Its ample and firm... enough said.

5. My back. This may be a bit weird... but I like my back... even though I cant really see it. I heart tattoos... and since I work in corporate America for now, my back is my canvas. I currently only have 2 tats on my back, but what artist doesn't love their canvas first? right?

I had no intention of doing an outfit post today, since I'm still living in the land of chaos. However, I found myself in the downstairs bathroom as I was headed out the door for lunch today. I caught myself in the full length mirror and kinda enjoyed what I put together this morning and decided what the heck.

Today I take my "final" final exam... at least until Fall Semester. This past semester has been my first full time semester since 2003. I have to say its been insane. I've really enjoyed learning and meeting new people and I'm so thankful to have the opportunity to scale back my hours at work and finish up my degree. As much as I complain about the teachers, dumb 17 year old, and homework... Overall, I'm so glad to be back in school. I'm sure Ill be even more happy to finish though.

Well I did make an attempt to look nice today. I pulled out a dress I bought last spring while I was in San Antonio. I believe I got it at F21. Not positive though. It was either there, or at a little shop called Papaya. I honestly cannot remember.

Its warm out today, probably the warmest its been all year... but still not warm enough to go all day without a little cardigan. I purchased this cardigan last year at NY&Co. Probably one of the best buys I've ever made. Lord knows this cardi has seen some wear over the past year. I paired the outfit with a pair of perfectly matching purple flats with the most adorable rosette detail.

As little effort as I put into looking good this morning... I think that this is one of my new favorite outfits. Go me!

I have a new dress (well, not so new, just never worn) to wear tomorrow. Jimmy and I are going to a church function in the evening, and I want to look spiffy to celebrate the official beginning of Summer Break! Hello laying by the pool on Wednesdays!!!

I haven't posted in a while. I haven't even taken an outfit photo in over a week, which kinda feels weird. My wardrobe the past week has mostly consisted of cotton jersey anything along with denim and flip flops. I did get some super cool shoes this week for Saturday's wedding festivities. Ill be sure to capture a few fun photos of that.

My schedule has been completely wacked out. Hubs and I joined a gym last week. We decided to go mornings, at least for this week. We will give evenings a shot another week and see what works best for us. I've always been a morning exerciser, but mostly out of convenience rather than desire. But I do admit, I kinda like mornings... but we'll see. Ive been getting ready for work and school at the gym, which means easy outfits and minimal makeup and hair fussing. Which of course results in complete blah! I'm trying to find a way to streamline my morning routine so it is gym friendly and I can still look put together.

This, coupled with the fact that finals week starts Monday has made this week complete chaos. I know it could be worse, but its the end of the semester and honestly, I just want to be lazy. I kinda have this "I don't care" attitude... I try to banish it, but I really don't care. (I do care, but I'm just tired). Makes no sense... I know.

So... this weekend... SO EXCITED! I am attending one of my high school best guy friends weddings. So of course, the whole crew should be present. I'm totally looking forward to it. I'll post pics next week.

Return of the Curly Hair.

So I need some advice.

My hair is naturally curly. I love wearing it curly. HOWEVER, I decided to cut bangs into my hair this past fall. I had a very hard time styling my hair curly with the bangs. So I have been wearing my hair strait for the past 4-6 months. I have decided to grow the bangs out for the summer (Even though I love them). Now that they are just a little bit longer, I kinda like them with my curly hair. This takes the humidity out of the picture, which is the reason that I wanted to grow them out. If my hair is curly, I don't have a problem with humidity and frizz. So here is a pic of me with bangs, and without. Do you think I should keep them the length they are, or continue to grow them out? At this point its a matter of looks, not convenience since they can be fixed both curly and strait.

Looking @ these pictures is a reminder that I need to get back in shape... :-)
Well I'm looking a little radio active today. I was going through my closet yesterday and came across a few "comfy" pieces that I haven't worn in quite a while. These are my Chico's travelers pants. I don't know if any of you have ever owned a piece of the travelers collection from Chicos... but its heaven. No wrinkles and sooooo comfy... Its like wearing your pajamas. They are a little big... the crotch hangs a few inches, but hey... they still work.
I paired it with a simple neon yellow crew neck tee and black and white accessories.

I'm always paranoid to pair black and yellow together for fear of looking like a bumble bee... but black white and any neon color are one of my favorite combinations. Maybe I need to get a neon blue or green top to wear. Hmm... Ill add that to the list.

I know I promised you a "Closet Project"... and yes I realise that I'm, oh... about 3 weeks behind. Its been a crazy month and I'm getting ready to start finals... So I'm gonna put it off for a while. I may do something different... but I promise, I will do something creative with my closet... after I clean it out and reorganize it of course.

Ive lost my head!!

So I had this image of a Blissful morning where I didn't have to be at work until 11am, and behold... I didn't have any classes this morning. (I guess being an accounting major makes April 15th a holiday). This would have been the case if I hadn't procrastinate sending my taxes off. I was so proud that I got them done 2 weeks early... but I never printed them, signed them and mailed them off. So of course I spent my morning printing my taxes off... attaching W-2s and hunting the hubbs down for a signature. Now they sit pretty at the end of my desk, with certified postage attached just waiting for me to march them downstairs to the mail room.

I FINALLY purchased a pair of long black leggings. I have a pair that are calf length with little snaps on them, but really wanted a pair of ankle length leggings. How comfy!!! I remember not too long ago, I swore I would NEVER wear leggings. Oh how my mind has changed. If I were a bit thinner, I think I'd wear them everyday with everything. These little bronze sandals are one of my favorite summer pieces. They aer so light weight and match just about anything. They are however, a bit uncomfortable if your doing alot of walking. The piece in between the toes is kinda weird.

Wedding Wear... Day two... and a decision

Saturday the hubbs and I ventured out to Buford Georgia to visit the Mall of Georgia. I live a bigger city, but we still have to drive 2 hours to get to the nearest H&M and Forever 21. This has to be one of my favorite malls, it has all the great stores. AND its on the way to Mom and Dads... Bonus!

This was one of the first dresses I tried on. It is from H&M. This nude blush color must be big in their Spring season collection, because just about everything came in this color. I LOVED this dress with one exception. I wasn't a big fan of the neck line. I don't mind a cowl neck... but this dress would have looked so much better with just a simple scoop neck line.

This dress I tried on in JC Penny. I liked the 1950's feel, but like alot of the other more structured dresses, the bust was a bit too big on me. I even went down 2 sizes from what I normally wear and the bust still didn't fit me.

I really liked this dress from JC Penny as well, but it just didn't seem "special" enough. This looked like an everyday dress that I would wear to work. Not like something fit for an evening wedding.

And then there is this dress... What to say. It looked good on the hanger. And may have looked good on me with some altering... but it reminded me of something Stiffler's mom in American Pie would have worn. Too matronly and too low cut. Those two combined makes me look like a MILF. I'm only 28 people!

And the Winner is...

This dress I picked up in H&M... Again with the nude blush tone. I just loved the way it fit and it suits my personality. I can wear it with the black belt, black accessories and little black booties to make it look all edgy or I can pair it with a softer belt, some pearls and nude sandals to make it look more summery and pretty.

I think this will work perfect for the wedding. What do you think?

Wedding Wear... Day one.

With many weddings coming up this summer, I wanted to find an appropriate "wedding dress". These weddings range from formal evening weddings to morning outdoor weddings. My hopes is to find a dress that will be appropriate for all of these, and maybe even versatile enough to spill into other areas of my wardrobe.

Day 1 of shopping:

I have this idea in my head of what this dress should look like, and obviously its blue. I was looking for something in a thick satin (like a prom dress). Short, but not too short. Pretty and sexy, yet still moderately modest. Blue must be a big color this season, because there was no shortage of blue dresses.

This was the first dress I tried on. Honestly I absolutely love it!!! It fits great, the length is great, the cut is adorable... But... it seemed a bit too "prom dress" for a wedding. The last thing I want to do is look like I am trying to weasel my way into the wedding party. And I have no clue where else I'd be able to wear this dress. But so far, it is the cheapest. What do you guys think?

The next dress I tried on looked great. It hugged all my curves in all the right ways. The shade of blue was gorgeous against my dark hair and the style was conservative enough to wear to business functions and work with a blazer thrown over top. This one did come in at that top of the budget, but it is stunning. My only complaint, it did gape a bit in the back, but it wasn't that noticeable.
This last one ALMOST came home with me. It was the last dress I tried on for the day. It was a very reasonable price and a nice cut. The fabric was very soft, yet very durable. The cut was modest, and with the rushing across the breast, it was very flattering. (as I'm typing this, I kinda wish I would have gone ahead and purchased it). It was dressy enough for a wedding, date night or any fancy event, but I think if I put a pair of sandals with it I could have worn it as a sun dress... maybe.

The hubbs and I are driving to ATL to be with my parents this weekend. We plan to stop at the Georgia Mall and take a look around. Maybe I will find a suitable dress.

What do you guys think. Am I headed in the right direction?

Today I decided to Throw on my Boyfriend Blazer, which I haven't worn in quite a while. I paired it with a simple white tee, denim skirt, footless tights and my oxford booties. I think this may be my new favorite outfit.

This past weekend me and the hubbs drove north up to the Mountains. We stoped in a little town about an hour or so North of here and shopped in some of their Thrift stores. I manages to score me a few little odds and ends. These bow earrings being one of the things I picked up.

I've been looking for gold bow earrings. I really would like a pair of smaller real gold bows, but these are cute and a bit more of a statement piece.

Well, this is my 100th post. It seriously seems like I've been blogging way to long to just now hit 100. But hey, this calls for a celebration!

We'll celebrate with a quick "10 things I bet you didn't know about me" posting.

1. I can touch my nose with my tongue... now that's talent.

2. I am mostly Italian, American Indian, and German... needless to say, I'm a great cook, and have a horrible temper.

3. I have no musical talent but dream about being a rock star. When I was a kid I used to pretend I was Steven Tyler of Aerosmith (I thought he was a girl). I'd tie scarfs and blankets to an upright vacuum and sing my little heart out.

4. Ive ONLY been in long term serious relationships. I've never just had a casual boyfriend.

5. I've never eaten Spam. I honestly would like to keep it that way.

6. I've never eaten at a Clock Restaurant. For those of you that don't live in the south, the clock restaurants are basically little dinners that are on about every single corner. Most of them are owned by Greeks, but serve greasy southern food.

7. I'm obsessive compulsive about a few things, locking my car in particular. I always lock it, unlock it, then lock it again just to make sure that its really locked.

8. I CANNOT stand to not have polish on my toes. If you ever catch me without polished toes, I'll give you 50 bucks... promise.

9. I was a championship cheerleader when I was a wee little girl. My team won the championship when I was in 4th grade.

10. Most people think I'm super social, but in all honesty, Id much rather hang out with myself. I like people, but after a few hours, I'm ready to do my own thing.

You can tell I work in finance because I think in terms of quarters. The 2nd and 4th quarter of the year are always my favorite. The weather is always wonderful. The 1st quarter is always too cold and the 3rd quarter is always too hot. My anniversary falls in the 2nd quarter and my Birthday falls in the 4th quarter. And there's just something about even numbers...

Anyway, all my new years resolutions got flushed down the drain. I don't think I kept to a single one of them (I blame it on the 1st quarter). Since I am a girl who loves a list... and even more enjoys making them... I decided to put together some things I would like to accomplish during the 2nd quarter of the year.

1. Learn how to cook healthy, and do it more often. I love to cook, but most of my recipes aren't waistline friendly. I partially blame this on the fact that I've put on some weight over the past year. I would love to be able to express myself in the kitchen while still loosing weight. I know its possible... I know its been done before... I just have to figure out how to do it.

2. Exercise at least 3 days a week. I'm not going to get into loosing weight and setting that as a goal... Been there done that. And of course its a goal of mine, it always is, always will be... But a goal to exercise a few days a week... that's more like something I can commit to.

which leads me to...

3. Vary the type of exercise. I'm such a creature of habit that its sad. I seriously use the same exact elliptical, treadmill and bike every time I go to the gym... I use the same setting every time, and even do the same exact rotation through the weight machines. No wonder I'm so board with loosing weight. I took a Zumba class on Sunday and loved it. I would really like to start running since the weather is getting nice. Biking in the park may even be something fun to do.

4. Spend more time doing Art. When I started college (the first time) I was an art major. I love art of all different kinds. I love to do wire sculpting, painting, drawing, crafting and decorating. However, I haven't carved out any time to do any of these things in sooo long. I painted something for my mom for Christmas, but that was the first thing I had done in years... yes years. Since I wont be taking a summer semester and will have a bit of extra time, I'd love to get back into doing some form of art work regularly.

5. Get started on my Christmas shopping. Can you believe that one of my friends is already done with her Christmas shopping... I haven't bought the first thing. Well I have a few generic gifts that I bought last year but never ended up needing, so of course those will be recycled for this year. But I'd like to at least get started on my Christmas shopping so it doesn't sneak up on me the 2nd week of December like it did this past Christmas.

6. Get a Tan. I know I know, we are all absolutely terrified of the sun... blah blah blah... But this girl needs some serious vitamin D. I do plan to spend mucho time by the pool this summer... please don't lecture me.

7. Keep up with house work. This is always a struggle for me. I usually do really well for a month or so, then things get out of control until I get beyond frustrated and then I do well for a month or so until.... you see the cycle. Since I've been in school there has been no keeping up with anything beyond maybe a week. My husband has been so great to help me out with laundry and dishes, but I hope that this summer, even if it is just for the summer... My house will remain clean, laundry will remain done, and closets will remain organized. We'll see.

8. Redecorate. I don't want to redecorate everything. But I would like to repaint a few things. I'm happy with the overall decoration and theme of my home, but I'd like to brighten up a few things. Black and white are a big combo throughout the entire house. I used black as a base for most rooms and used white as an accent. I'd like to flop that. I think I can repaint alot of furniture and recover a few things to make this easy and inexpensive. Its a good project to work on during the summer.

9. Read a Book... an entire book. Don't get me wrong, I do read... but lately its been a chapter in this book here... a chapter in that book there. I cant remember the last time I read an entire book from start to finish. I'll need a good book for all that time by the pool anyway. So this should be easy.

10. Last... Relax and ENJOY my free time this summer. It may sound crazy to alot of you reading this... But a summer where I work part time, no school... its like a dream. You cant even begin to imagine how excited I am. I love school, and I love learning... but a break is definitely looked forward to! I haven't had this much free time during the summer since the summer of 2003. I'm so stoked. I'm counting down every day until the end of the semester.... not because I hate school... but because I cant wait until summer time!!! 44 more days!

So I made the epic decision not to attend summer semester. I was so hell bent on finishing as soon as possible that I didn't think about the fact that summer classes are so compact. One class alone requires 8 hours of class time. That doesn't include study time. I just don't see myself fitting 32 hours of classes in with my 32 hours of work paired with house work, gym, and living. I don't understand why I initially felt so guilty for wanting to take the semester off. But believe me, the guilt has passed. I'm going to continue to work only 32 hours and take my 8 hours off on Wednesdays. This will be nice to have a break in the middle of the week. I will be spending these Wednesdays at the pool, at the lake, in the sun... anywhere that screams ITS SUMMER! Just the thought of an entire WORK day by the pool makes me so giddy with excitement. What a genius idea... take the summer off... why didn't I think of this sooner?

No outfit post today. I'm wearing a very familiar dress... and its not styled any different than I usually do. Plus I just don't feel like taking a pic today.

I am looking forward to my Closet project. So much so that I considered moving it up a few weeks. But I'm going to be patient and wait for April... I mean, its just a week or so away.

So... The countdown begins.

I actually got a little dressed up this morning. WOO HOO! I just wish that was somewhat reflective of how I feel. In all honesty, I'm having a rough morning... but I will spare you the details.

I'm so ready for spring weather that I'm driving myself nuts!!! Its nice to be able to go bare legged... but I am ready for full on Spring. I think me and the hubbs might drive up into the mountains this weekend. Either that or drive down to Charleston. I don't know if its going to be warm enough for the beach, but its always fun to walk around downtown.

Well, today I felt a little more like actually getting dressed, even though I still wanted to keep it pretty comfortable. I picked this tunic/dress up at Target while I was in Atlanta this weekend. For some reason I packed mostly jeans and somewhat uncomfortable clothes, so I hit the shops to find something. Can't complain! I LOVE a jersey knit dress. The ease and comfort paired with the fact that its a dress, and its hard to make a dress look TOO casual... its just perfect. I'm sure when we all get to heaven we will all be wearing jersey knit dresses.

I decided to grow out my bangs for summer. I Love my bangs and think they are adorable!!! But I know what the humidity does to my hair... They are now just long enough to hang in my eyes and drive me crazy, but not quite long enough to sweep to the side or pull back. I fixed my hair curly and let my bangs dry semi curly. This way they kinda stay to the side without any issues.

I think I need to go see an eye doctor and get my eyes examined again. I'm supposed to wear glasses, even though I never do. But I noticed the past week Ive been having problems reading numbers... This poses a major problem. Guess I should dig my glasses out for now. (I just have to remember where I put them)

Closet Project part duex.

Hello world, Its been a while. I feel as thought I've been so disconnected the past week or so. I found out last week that my mother was having a serious lung biopsy on this past Monday. I left that Saturday morning, drove 8 hours to pick up my grandmother, then drove 8 hours to take her to my Mom and Dads, stayed with them through the surgery and recovery, then drove 3 hours home last night, or should I say this morning. It feels like the past 4 days have just been a matter of hours. What a whirl wind. Mom is doing great, and after I get a good nap, I'll be doing great!!

I have been thinking of repeating my Closet Project that I did back in December for quite a while now. I have been racking my brain on how to put a different twist on it, but I think with the weather warming up it wont be monotonous to repeat it just as it was.

If you don't remember what I did, you can read back about my Closet Project. In short, I committed to wear a different outfit, or combination of clothes, every day for 31 days. It wasn't as hard as I thought, and I rediscovered alot of forgotten clothing in my closet.

April will be my Spring Closet Project. This gives me some time to do another inventory of my closet and purchase a few new items to add to my closet before I get started. I think I am also going to combine a spending diet along with this closet project. I'm definitely not committing to that yet. I may set myself a budget or allowance. I haven't decided that yet. But I have a week and a half to get all the details worked out.

I hate that I haven't uploaded any outfit pics this week. I have worn some fun combinations. Its just been a bit crazy around here.

With the temps nearing 70 degrees today I decided to brave bare legs. I realise how pasty I've gotten over the winter. Mr. Sunshine, please come back for a visit.

I will be leaving tomorrow to head to the sunny state of Florida. Only, I wont be seeing much Florida sunshine... I will only get to see some Florida Moonlight. I should arrive at my cousins around 10pm, only to turn around and leave around 6am. I'm then picking up my grandma and headed to Atlanta, where my parents live. My mom is having surgery on Monday so I will be in Georgia with family until at least Tuesday depending on how she does.

I seriously think I'm just going to wear a pair of PJs Saturday morning on my way down to Florida and not even change until I reach Atlanta on Sunday night.

Orange you glad you went thrifting?

Ya know, there are some days that I can spend hours out thrifting and not find a thing... Then there are those days, like yesterday, where I run in and out of just a few stores and hit the jackpot.

The hubs and I were back in our hometown visiting his family and decided to hit a few of the local thrift stores on our way back home. I found alot of goodies, and oddly enough, they all seemed to have a bit of an orange theme.

I found this J. Crew strapless dress for... ready for this... $2.50. Its in great condition and fits perfectly. This dress will be perfect for spring time with a pair of nude wedge open toes. But I can imagine it looking adorable with a pair of brown boots, a brown belt, a mountain of necklaces and a denim jacket while its still a bit chili outside. I couldn't believe this find. I love this dress.

I found this old navy dress with the tags still on for $6.00. I will also probably be pairing this one with a denim jack and boots until it gets a bit warmer outside.

I fell in love with this skirt when I saw it on the rack and just prayed that it fit. I went through my closet and found that I have bought 10 dresses in the past few weeks, but very few skirts. The skirts I have purchased have been solids, and more of a pencil style. I've been itching to find a fun flowy floral print skirt that flatters my figure. BINGO! This one not only fit, but looked adorable, and for only $4.25, I decided to take it home with me. For spring I will probably style this with a simple tee or tank and flops or cute sandals. For now, I'm most likely going to pair this with a slim black long sleeve top and black or textured tights.

This was a cute Target wrap dress. I picked it up for $5.00. Its not my favorite that I came home with, but the fit is great, and I love a wrap dress. The print is a little off for my taste, but I'm sure it will look cute if styled right. Most likely until it gets warm this will be paired with a fun sweater or jacket.

Finally, I picked up this belt for $1.00. I have a recent obsession with all things gold. I just imagined this would go with so many things and just "jazz" up any ole' plain outfit.

Thrifing has become quite the hobby here lately. I just wish I could sew. If I could alter some of the clothes I come across, I'd seriously have more clothes than I know what to do with. I've learned though, that thrifitng requires a level of skill and patience. I have figured out where to look for certain things, and how to scan the isles without spending hours picking over every single piece of clothing. Thrifting has kind of tainted me though. While I still LOVE to shop. I have a hard time purchasing something new off the rack when there is 20 other items identical to it hanging on the rack. It just doesn't seem as fun anymore. Now, I know that Old Navy dress probably has thousands of twin sisters roaming around my state alone... but when I purchased it, it was unique and stood out to me. Call me crazy, but I just enjoy the hunt more at a Thrift, second hand or vintage store.

I haven't done an outfit post in a while. Honestly, I haven't worn anything worth posting. Its been a jeans and tee shirt kinda week.
Just so you are aware, the next few paragraphs are going to be filled with many complaints, rants and fussiness. Sorry, but you can feel free to change the channel.

I cant put my finger on why, but this week has sucked! My computer at work crashed last Wednesday, and here I sit... the following Wednesday, with a still broken computer. I shouldn't complain, I've been able to get alot of things accomplished around my office without the computer... but I have been so highly irritated that it has taken so long to get this taken care of... I can feel my blood pressure boil just typing about it.

To add to this frustration, I have put on way more weight that I had thought. Out of the 60lbs that I lost, I have packed on almost 20 of those lbs in the past 2 years. I have GOT to get back on a diet and exercise plan.

Last weekend we got a speeding ticket while driving through North Carolina. I mean, who doesn't do 80mph on the interstate. Its kinda funny though... Not even an hour before we got pulled over my husband leaned over to me and said, "My goal is to not get a ticket in my new car"... sure enough... sirens and lights.

*Sigh... Ok... I think I'm good for now. On to better news.

Jimmy spoke with the photographer for the photo shoot that I won. We exchanged some ideas, and I'm totally looking forward to working with him. I think we are going to incorporate a "trash the dress" shoot in there somewhere. I have been wanting to trash my wedding dress for years now. If you've never heard of "trash the dress"... look it up. I think we are going to do something with paint to somewhat incorporate my "artist" side. I'm super stoked. For the rest of the photos we are still throwing around ideas. I'm very much leaning toward 1940's kitchy type theme... but I would also like to do something elegant and classically sexy. Uh, decisions.

Jimmy and I saw a presentation for a genetically based diet and exercise plan. I'm pretty stoked about it. And get this, Jimmy is too! We hope to start in April, but the waiting is killing me. I'm so ready to get back on track with this health thing... but I am having one heck of a time disciplining myself. And putting this off until April just gives me another excuse to eat whatever I want and avoid the gym for another month. Its so weird. I love how I feel when I go to the gym and eat healthy... I love everything about it- but I just cant seem to stick to it. Even more frustrating is knowing that I CAN do it. I've done it before... so why is it so hard this time. I honestly just want to lay on the couch, watch reruns of Friends and The Office all night long and eat jelly beans, popcorn, cookies and anything with cheese on it. Why cant I loose weight while doing that. Huh? Who made Cheese anyway. It is the bane of my existence. I swear if there wasn't any cheese on this planet I'd be a size 2. What else can I blame my fatness on? Oh the weather. Who wants to drive the whole 4 miles to the gym in the snow anyway... or even just in the cold. I mean walking all the way to the car, then all the way from the car to the front door of the gym... Please... its just too cold.

Funny thing... On the Price is Right, in the final showcase, one of the prizes was a trip to the city I live in. Don't get me wrong... I LOVE my city! I ADORE it! Honestly... but its not exactly a dream vacation destination. Its a wonderful place to live... but not necessarily to vacation to. It cracked me up. The poor woman looked like she had no clue where in the world this little city was... and South Carolina... who wants to go there anyway. I remember when I moved here with my parents. I was kinda pissed. South Carolina is like the Southern State that no one cares about. North Carolina is beautiful with its mountains and all... Georgia is quaint, and has peaches... Kentucky, Tennessee, Virginia.... all great. But who gives a crap about South Carolina. My relatives still say that I live in "Carolina". Really, its a great state. Just funny thoughts.

I guess that's enough rambling for now. Sorry there's no related fashion or beauty or anything glamorous today. Hopefully we'll get back to the glamour by the end of the week. Maybe tomorrow I'll wear something spectacular just to jolt my mood. Or maybe I'll wear my jogging pants and a hoodie... we shall see.

Its almost quiting time... I'm gonna head home, change into some gym clothes and pretend that I'm headed to the gym for about 20 minutes... then I'll change my mind, curl up on the couch to watch Friends for an hour with a cup of OJ in one hand, and a bag of Jelly Beans in the other. Maybe fall asleep, wake up when the hubbs comes home... watch The Office and be a slob for the rest of the night. Jimmy makes dinner on Wednesdays... so If I play my cards right and not drink too much liquids... I may not have to leave the couch until bed time... Something to look forward to!

So, these green tights looked fabulous in the package. When I put them on this morning my memory shot back to freshman year. I had a History teacher that used to dress a little... eccentric. I remember one day she wore olive green tights with an olive green jumper. She looked like a leprechaun. All I could think of when I looked in the mirror this morning was how much we made fun of her for wearing those green tights. Hopefully I look a little more stylish than she did.

I truly was not in the mood to dress up this morning. I have been fighting a nasty headache and spent most of yesterday afternoon laying on the couch. The company I work for is a subsidiary of a bank out of Florida. The Bank CEO is in town today so I was asked to dress nicely. Now, I usually dress nice. I actually prefer to wear a dress. But there are days like today, where a comfy sweater and a pair of loose fitting jeans would have been top choice. I really can't complain though. A few days a year I am required to dress up, every other day its left completely up to me.

This is the dress I purchased this weekend at the vintage store. I like the way it fits. Its very classy in my opinion. I decided to pair it with red and gold accessories and my patterned tights. I really like the look despite the fact that I'd rather be curled up in a robe under my covers right now.

Denim Double Duty...

I decided to give the Denim on Denim look a try, even though in the past I absolutely despised it. I kinda like it. I still feel like I'm wearing something reminiscent of an outfit I wore in the 6th grade. Ever go to a thrift store or a Goodwill and find clothes that are EXACTLY like something you had years and years ago. Ever wonder if this was your item? This denim shirt is the same brand and size of a shirt I had in the 10th grade. What a crazy circle clothes make. We love them, wear them, neglect them, hate them, give them away, throw them away, then wish we still had them in our closet.

A Thai kind of weekend...

My weekend started with Lunch @ a fabulous Thai restaurant on Friday. I had the Pho, which I absolutely LOVE!!!

Friday night I went out with some of my girlfriends to see Dear John. It was ok. I guess I was expecting something more like the Notebook. It was a great story, but it didn't hold a candle to the Notebook. Lucky for me, the Notebook was on TV AGAIN last night so I got my romantic movie fix.

Saturday was kind of a lazy day. I hung around the house and worked on homework while my husband was at work. After he came home we decided to hit a thrift store he had scoped out earlier that week. It was nice and organized, which is a rare find. I did manage to go home with a few good pieces. Jimmy found somethings he liked too.

I found this denim shirt. Its exactly like one I owned about 12 years ago. Same brand, same size. Have you ever thought about the life that pre owned clothes have had. I know this may sound weird... but sometime I wonder how many dates a certain dress has been on, how many babies were rocked to sleep on the shoulder of a certain blouse, and how many dances a pair of shoes attended. I know I'm weird. But there is something whimsical about pre owned clothes.

I managed to find some good vintage clothes too. I always have a hard time in this area. Usually what I end up going home with are more recent styles. But I actually found vintage clothes that fit me and that I would be willing to wear.

I found this adorable vest. When I first saw it on the rack it looked like something Jimmy's great Aunt Dot would have in her closet. But I figured Id try it anyway. I'm glad I did. It looks adorable belted.

I also found this cute sweater vest. The shoulders are very square, which just adds to its appeal.

I stumbled across this green skirt. It fit perfect, was the perfect length and needed no alterations. "Ill take it". I also found this cute red belt with gold accents.

I obviously love Thai food, because later that evening Jimmy and I went to a nice little Thai restaurant downtown for some more Thai food. I got the Pineapple Fried rice.... so yummy. We have been eyeballing this restaurant for years now, but always forget about it when it comes time to eat. Some of our friends, who actually used to live in Singapore, said that this was his favorite restaurant... So we prioritized it. I definitely recommend it. If you are ever in Greenville, South Carolina... check out Lemongrass on Main St.

There is a cute little vintage shop downtown called Clothing Warehouse. I love to go in there and browse, but I always thought their prices were a bit ridiculous. Saturday, however, they had 2 racks of dresses marked down to $6.95. I really wish I would have left with more than just one dress, but this one fit perfect, needed no alterations... so I snagged this one up and left the others for some other shoppers.

The remainder of my weekend consisted of cleaning, homework and laying on the couch like a dead person. It really was a wonderful weekend!

Green like Grass

I had a most fabulous weekend (which I will post about later). Part of my weekend was spent discovering this fabulous little skirt. I have so much black, grey and white in my wardrobe, its kinda nice to have something bright like this green skirt. I'm usually not a big fan of green, but grass shades please me. This skirt will be perfect to wear next month to avoid getting pinched on the 17th.

Every time I say out loud that I am 27, I feel like I am telling some sort of joke. Yes, I know I look young for my age and yes, I am truly thankful for that. And of course, I know that 27 is not old. However, 27 sounds old to me. Not that 27 is old for you, or anyone else... but in my head, I still feel like i am 17. Like I should still be roaming the halls of my high school, staying out late, and worrying about homework. Since I'm a college student, I get to hold on to a few of these memories just a little bit longer, but its something different. In SO many ways I still feel like that 17 year old girl... but in so many more ways my body laughs at me and says "you are SO not 17". Does anyone else deal with this. I try to "act" or "dress" my age, but sometimes I honestly feel confused at what 27 is supposed to look or act like. All I can do is be myself and keep my fingers crossed that I don't become one of those "ladies" that you see that are obviously over 30 and stealing clothes from their 14 year old daughters closet. If I ever get that way, please stage an intervention!

On to more exciting things... I am loving my outfit today. I have been in a skirt for over a week and pants are a little bit refreshing. Don't get me wrong, I love skirts and dresses. No one is making me wear them, I just love them. But a change is always nice. I colored my hair last night. Its a very subtle change. Its a burgundy black. My hair was already black with red undertones. So now, the undertones are just much more pronounced. I like it. You really cant tell anything in these pictures. While I was in Walmart picking up a box of hair color, I browsed the clearance racks... These little vests were on sale for $3... yeah $3. So of course I couldn't just get one. I got this one in cream and another one in grey. They had black as well, but i have a longer vest in black, and most of the tops I would wear under them are black so I opted not to get the black one. The vest looked really cute without the belt, but I thought the patent leather in the belt really tied in my patent leather flats really well. I have been living in my oxford booties for so long that it almost feels weird to be back in a pair of flats.

My husband went to the circus last night with some very good friends of ours and their children. I opted to stay home and get some studying done. I know, I know... I'm a party pooper. But it was absolutely adorable when he came home. It was like he was 7 years old again. Even though we all know guys don't mature past the age of 8 anyways. He recounted all the acts, stunts and animals as if it were happening again in our living room. As bummed as I was to stay home and read about financial statements, Lean concepts, Six Sigma and managerial accounting, it absolutely made my night to see how excited he was when he got home. So its no secret that Liz over @ Delightfully Tacky has got some serious tresses! Every time she posts I'm completely enamored with her outfit, but even more smitten with her hair. Truth is we have similar hair. I'm totally not bragging on my own hair, if I could get my hair to do what hers does I'd be absolutely elated. I have dark, naturally curly hair with blunt cut bangs that MUST be straightened. If I don't straighten the bangs, they decide to point at the ceiling for some odd reason. Since I cut bangs, I have been straightening my hair, all of it, all of the time... Which I'm ok with. I knew that would be the case when I cut it, but it would be nice to give it a little bit of a break.

As I drooled over her pictures the past few days it hit me... HARK, we have the same hair. well kinda. Hers is of course alot longer than mine, adding alot more weight to the curl, but maybe, just maybe I can somewhat imitate her most fabulous do! SO I gave it a go this morning.

I notice that I have ALOT less length than she does... But over all I like it. Not quite as beautiful as hers, but it suites me all the same.

My Most favorite Dress...

This is what I wore last Thursday. My husband and I were attending a Marriage Conference beginning that evening and I wanted to look nice. This has to be my most favorite dress in all of my closet. I never speak those words aloud for fear that my other dresses may over hear and become jealous. But there is something fabulous that happens when I put this dress on.

I decided to pair my Red tights and black oxfords (which you cant see). Of course the red was for Valentines day... very cliche, but I liked it. I braided my hair, which you also cant see. Overall I felt pretty good.

The Marriage Conference was put on my my church. It was an absolute blast. Friday night there was a nice banquet dinner and dancing. And of course when we left Friday night it was still snowing and there was about 5-6 inches of snow on the ground. If you live up north that may not be a big deal to you, but for those of us in South Carolina... This is huge. I wanted to play in it, but it was sooo cold I decided to admire it from the window... It was the most beautiful fluffy snow I think I've ever seen! Friday night before the dance they did a raffle... and get this- I won!! I was completely shocked. One of my best friends also won something, it had to be rigged. I won a $500 value boudoir photo shoot. I'm so excited, but also terrified. I wouldn't say I'm the most modest person in the world... but I'm still a bit nervous. I need some ideas, so send me some comments or emails or something if you have suggestions.

For Valentines Day the hubby took me out to dinner. He said I could choose anywhere I wanted, and I chose Fatz. Fatz is kinda like a Ruby Tuesdays. I know I know... classy. Honestly, I really wanted a good salad, and Fatz has FABULOUS salads... so don't give me a hard time. We then went to see Avatar in 3D, which I thought was incredible!!! After that we headed home for desert and some much needed relaxation. The hubby did really well this Valentines day. He got me a gold key pendant and necklace along with a gift certificate to go back and get myself some earrings. I was very pleased. I ended up picking out 2 pair of earrings, both are little birdy studs. I don't know where my affinity for birds came from, but they are adorable. Maybe I'll post pics at some point.

Its been a crazy month. While I'm not one for excuses, I got a few to throw your way. I started college the middle of January, and boy oh boy, what an adjustment. This is the first time I've been a full time student in 7 years. It seems unreal to say that, let alone type it. I know there are so many full time non traditional students with much more on their plate than me, so I know that I cant complain... but its still quite an adjustment. I think I have got the balancing work and school thing down, but its the "wife" duties that I'm struggling with. While I have a wonderful and very helpful husband, I'm a pretty traditional girl when it comes to the home. My husband bears the burden of supporting our home financially and I bear the burden of supporting our home, domestically... and I like it that way. I wouldn't classify myself as a neat freak, but the condition of our home over the past few weeks has made me cringe every time I walk in the door. I'm not going to lie and tell you I haven't had a single moment to clean, do laundry or any of that... but on those moments when I could be doing those things... I really don't want to. I'm sure I will adjust, I'm just wondering when this magical adjustment will take place.
This past week I do feel as though I have gotten a bit of a better handle on things. I did manage to pick up and throw a load or 2 of laundry on, but I haven't vacuumed in way too long. Baby steps... baby steps...

Ok, since you were kind enough to lend me your shoulder, on to more fun stuff. You may remember me talking about this red dress in an earlier post... As you can see, I did get it. I kept my eye on this dress for almost a month... waiting for it to go on sale. Every time I went into the mall, the first thing I looked for was this dress, made sure they still had my size, and checked to see if it was on sale. A little over a week ago... BINGO! It was marked down to the same price as the animal print one I purchased. I absolutely love it! Now, I'm thinking about going back and purchasing the solid black one if they still have it.

Also on the shopping front... I did some thrifting this weekend. Its become somewhat of a hobby that Jimmy and I actually enjoy doing together. Jimmy loves dumb novelty tees. Ya know, the ones that have retarded sayings on them. He's the only person I know that can get away with wearing them. So scouring the Goodwills and thrift shops of our city is fun for the both of us... which kinda rocks. I wouldn't say I hit the jackpot this weekend, but I did find a nice denim blazer that is cut perfectly for my figure. I also found a pair of cute patent leather red shoes, in perfect condition. So I think I fared well.

3 months later and I'm still wearing bangs. I think I'm going to keep them around at least until spring. Every other time I have cut bangs, I have seriously regretted it just a few weeks later. I'm not sure if its the way they are cut (much heavier than I usually get), or what it is, but I absolutely love them. I have naturally curly hair, and in previous times I have had a horrible time with my bangs curling up at any sign of humidity or precipitation. In the past 3 months, not once have I had that issue. YAY!

Ive been thinking about another way to challenge myself in my closet. My "closet project" was a major success and I definitely wore things I had never worn and otherwise would never have thought to put together. Unfortunately, I already feel as though I have fallen into another rut. I'm trying to think of ways to be creative without duplicating what I did in the "closet project". I know there is a wardrobe calendar floating around out there, but I don't like to be that restricted. I'm not sure, but I will come up with something, and yes, you will be the first to know about it.

Wednesday's plan to pick up my books and dress all comfortably totally backfired on me. I busted hump to get to the college financial aid office only to discover that they closed at 5. They were open until 7 every other day of the week. Just my luck. So I went back over there first thing in the morning on Thursday and waited in line for almost 2 hours so an advisor could print me off one sheet of paper. And almost $600 bucks later... I'm a full time college student. I don't think it actually hit me until my books rung up. I start on Monday and to be honest, I'm terrified. I don't really know why. I'm totally at peace about the decision to go back to school full time and cut my work hours back to part time... but I think I'm just terrified of sitting in a class room where most of the other students are about 10 years younger than me. I'm really starting to feel old. I know its silly, and its all in my head... but its still scary!

This is one of my favorite dresses. I picked it up after Christmas at an after Christmas sale. Its so comfortable. It is a soft jersey fabric, very light, and an empire waist (BONUS). Which means even on days I feel crappy- I can look good. I like the print. I wanted a solid red one but the solid colors were 20 bucks more. Which didn't make any sense to me. If I would have only seen the red one, I probably would have bought it... but knowing that this one was so much cheaper... I just couldn't do it. So, I'm just gonna pick up some red tights to wear with it... Take that Retail store!

I know I could have jazzed up this outfit a little with a cute belt, colored tights, scarf... anything. But I was feeling pretty simple yesterday morning. I wore this exact outfit last week and just really liked the simplicity of it.

I'm totally in love with the new oxford heel booties. My mom got them for me for Christmas. They are super duper comfy and go with just about anything. Which translates as "I wear them nearly every day".

Its a Typical Situation... in these typical times.

With my recent triumph over my closet, I have been wanting to do more outfit postings. However, My camera is usually in the hands of my husband every day as he uses it for work. He leaves well before I even get in the shower in the mornings, so what is a girl to do. TA DA! My cell phone has a self timer on the camera. Seriously. I've never heard of that. So here is my first outfit posting.

I know, I know... its absolutely nothing special. And if I would have known when the dern thing was going to go off, I maybe would have smiled. I kinda look silly.

I wanted to dress comfortable and casual today. I have been so busy at work (however I do manage to make time for blogging). I also need to take a trip down to the college to pick up my books this afternoon, and Lord only knows how long that will take. So I just slipped on my skinnies, comfy boots and long sleeved thermal top and I'm off.

I'm once again on a mission to loose more weight. Last year was a major fail, but I feel a little more level headed about it this time. I lost 60 lbs in 2008, gained back 20 in 2009, and hope to loose the 20 and then some in 2010. While I'm not totally disgusted with this picture, I do look a little lumpy. This will be a good photo to reference at the end of the year when I have met my overall weight loss goal. Seems like everyone is loosing weight this time of year doesn't it.

Closet Project: Finished!

Upon getting dressed this morning I didn't realize that my "Closet Project" had come to an end. This has probably been one of the best experiments that I have done EVER. I definitely wore WAY more color than usual, I wore outfits I hadn't worn in ages, and I styled outfits way beyond my comfort zone. I'd love to tell you that all of these outfits were a success, but I'd be lying. There were some days where I was totally surprised and how well I had done, and other days where I was just eager to get home and change into my pajamas.

RECAP:
The goal of my "Closet Project" was to not duplicate an outfit through the entire month of December. I did very well. There were a few close calls, but I justified these by wearing a different pair of pants, shoes or shirt etc. I did repeat one outfit 3 times during the month. I wore my Florida Gators sweatshirt and jeans 3 times during the month of December. Sorry, but a girls gotta show her Gators some love. Other than that, I didn't duplicate a single outfit.

CONCLUSION:
This proves to me that I have alot more clothes in my closet than I typically make use of. Don't by any means take that as me saying I don't want anymore clothes... Honey, Please! But, I do realize that my initial impulse is to wear the same thing over and over again. This has also gotten rid of the "I don't have anything to wear" syndrome. There are still several outfit pairings that I have yet to wear, and there are a few outfits that I am eager to repeat now that my project is over.

I've figured out what my favorite items are, and even fallen in love with a few things I didn't so much like in my closet.

I feel as though I have gained a bit more style. I think through what I am going to wear and study my wardrobe a little closer. I am also not as quick to purchase just the next cute thing on the rack when I'm shopping. I'm more aware of what I have and what I need, as well as what I definitely don't need another of.

Going forward, I hope to do more fashion and outfit postings. Now, I actually feel as though I may be able to put something together that is interesting enough to blog about.

Yesterday I went and got a haircut... My most fabulous Stylist hooked me up with the most adorable shag with heavy bangs. I love the bangs... No, I LOVE the bangs. They are lash length (think Rachael Bilson or Zooey Dechanel). So here is the dilemma.

I've always worn more eye makeup and a nude or natural lip. Now that my bangs pretty much cover my entire eye, I feel like I have no make up on. Last night when I looked in the mirror I thought I looked washed out. So this morning I did a bold purple smokey eye... pretty heavy... but I still feel like I look like I have no make up on.

Do any of you have a heavy or long bang? How do you compensate when you do your makeup? More blush/bronzer? More lipstick...

I'll post pics of my hair cut later this week. I'm still playing with it! :-)

Closet Project Update: 1/2 way there!

Well we are at the half way point in my Closet project... Day 16 of 31. So far this hasn't been that difficult. I have had a few itches to re-wear an outfit... but all in all, I've found the challenge pretty easy. I can honestly say, I have NEVER gone 16 days with out re-wearing an outfit. I have had a few close variations of an outfit or 2, but no repeats. I've been a bit more creative than usual, but nothing mind blowing. I have added a few pieces to my closet. I added a sweater wrap and a poncho. I also added a belt. Other than that we are dealing with the same clothes as the beginning of the month. I'm excited to see what the last half of December will bring in light of my wardrobe.

PS- I'm going to get my hair cut tonight... I may try out some bangs. We'll see. I'll do a post on it tomorrow probably.

Just because... I decided to share some little known information with my readers.

1. There are 2 food items that I am constantly running out of. Applesauce and Pickles. I can eat my weight in both.

2. I Love LOVE LOVE being a wife. I secretly wish I had the means to maintain the stereotypical 1940's housewife.

3. Seeing people wear socks with sandals makes my skin crawl... seriously. People laugh when I say this, but its like fingernails on a chalkboard to me. I struggle with the trend of wearing open toed shoes with tights because of this. I like the look, but it just physically hurts me.

Closet Project Check up...

Well, we are now at Dec 9th- 9 days into my Closet Project (my vow not to repeat an outfit for an entire month). So far so good. I did kinda repeat an outfit Monday. My Gators played in the SEC championship on Saturday, so of course I was sporting my Gator Garb. Unfortunately they got the pants beat off of them by Alabama. So, to prove my Gator Love was not conditional... I sported the Gator Garb again on Monday. This was a special circumstance, so naturally, it doesn't count. :-)

I'm becoming alot more creative with the pairings of my clothes. I love fashion and dressing up, but I still have always been an easy dresser. Jeans and a top... every top matches jeans. Easy! So, now I'm getting a little more adventurous with pairing different colors... different shirts with cardigans that I may not have paired together in the past. I've been getting alot of inspiration from other blogs like weardrobe and a few others. There are some amazing blogs out there strictly devoted to and Outfit of the Day posting. I have found myself completely addicted to these lately. I spend countless hours just looking at what other people are wearing. But Hey- this is what I do when I go to the mall... I sit in the food court and watch people walk by and analyze their outfits... Its usually the first thing I notice about a person. Not because I'm judging what they are wearing, but because I am looking for ideas. So I guess it is very fitting that I absolutely adore these blogs. I will do a post on my favorite fashion bloggers at the end of the month. I'm still discovering new ones every day.

I've also been thinking about a "signature" piece. Ya know, some girls only wear skirts and dresses, some people wear a vest or belt with EVERYTHING. Some people only wear black and white, or have a particular color present in EVERY outfit. I know that it is not necessary to have a signature piece... but I would like to have one. Or even just have a prominent piece that I wear most of the time. Through this closet project or challenge, I've been analyzing what pieces in my wardrobe look best on me and what pieces I should really consider getting rid of. So far, Ive discovered that I don't look that great in pants. Weird... since I wear them almost every day. I am fairly short (5 foot 3 inches) and have a curvy exaggerated hourglass figure. Pants usually just emphasize the width at my hips and the lack of length of my legs. I have tried numerous fits and styles. A slight flare tends to look best on me to balance out my hips, but there is no accentuation of my waist or figure whatsoever. They look good on me, but not great. My opinion is that I tend to look best in a shorter skirt, in most cuts. Pencil looks good, A-line looks good, even a bubble hem looks pretty decent. The length needs to hit right above my knee or shorter, but no shorter than fingertip length. I've never been a big skirt wearer... but I have the urge to go out and buy more. And how stinkin versatile is a skirt!!!? Perfect for summer and spring... add a pair of adorable tights and boots and its perfect for fall and winter.

Ive also taken notice to the fact that belts are a good accessory for me. I have a fairly small waist and petite rib cage or frame. Wearing a belt high on my waist accentuates that feature. I have a decent collection of belts, but its nothing to be excited about... maybe I should pick a few of these up as well. Belts are one of the easiest things to shop for too!

Hopefully I will have some shopping luck and find a few skirts and belts to add to my wardrobe and give these pieces a go for my "signature" look. I'm not committing to anything yet, but we will see.

Cold, Wet and Rainy outside... LOTD, Closet Inventory and Challenge.

Ok, I know this isn't the clearest picture... But its the best I can do with my little camera on my phone in the dark depths of my closet. (my husband took our camera with him today). Today is one of those days... Its cold and rainy outside, and I have a doctors appointment later this afternoon... So I went for a VERY effortless look. I didn't even wash my hair this morning (oh the horror). To be honest... I didn't even take a shower. SO... when it was time to get ready to go- it was anything with ease... please! I tossed on some wide leg comfy jeans, a white boyfriend v-neck tee, a black boyfriend blazer with the sleeves rolled up... a long dangly necklace and a floral scarf for accessories- and the good ole' faithful ballet flats. Hair got pulled back in a ponytail and VIOLA! Here ya have it.

This brings me to another topic. Has any of you ever taken a formal "Closet Inventory". Ya know, the kind where you inventory everything in your closet, write it down, organize it on paper and decide what to keep, throw away, donate or re purpose? I decided to do that early this week. I didn't realize I had so many clothes. I noticed that I tend to wear the same things over and over and totally neglect a good majority of clothing that I have in my closet. Perfectly good, trendy, stylish and adorable outfits never see the light of day. So, upon surveying my closet, I decided that there is very little if anything that I want to get rid of. I purge my closet pretty regularly so there was nothing left over that I'd like to see gone. I do have a few things I would like to "re purpose". By re purpose I mean add appliques to plain shirts and stuff like that. I am going through my list of clothes to pair up outfits... both outfits I wear on a regular basis and outfits that I have never ever worn. My goal is to wear a different combination of clothes every day for a month, with the exception of weekends and special events. I make this exception because I like to give certain outfits a "trial run" if I have something coming up. SO, starting yesterday- December 1st, I will not duplicate an outfit for the entire month. I want to chronicle all these outfits. You saw what I wore today... Yesterday was very simple... I wore a pair of Wide Leg Black dress trousers and a long sleeved plain eggplant tee. Very simple. I paired it with my trusty black ballet flats (which I wear almost EVERY day), and a long necklace and earrings to accessorize. I may not post pictures everyday, but I'll keep you updated as to how I do with this challenge.

If you've never inventoried your closet, I would encourage you give it a try. Especially if you feel as though you have a closet full of clothes but nothing to wear. It really does help give a realistic perspective of what is available. It also helps with figuring out what items to purchase. When I shop, I shop blindly. I purchase what I like, whats on sale, blah blah blah. Then I get home and realize... Hey I need this, or I should have bought this instead, or even the dreaded... I already have this. After making my inventory and organizing it, I went through and wrote down the staple items that I don't have, but would like to own. For example, I have a pair of Black stirrup leggings, a pair of calf length leggings, but no ankle length leggings... So that's next on my purchase list. I also don't own a classic trench coat... and I'd like to have one... You get the idea. Now next time I go shopping I know what I need and I can shop smarter.

*Waiting until December to decorate for Christmas. Everyone starts way too early. I just want to enjoy November and Thanksgiving and then I will begin enjoying Christmas... I don't want to miss anything fabulous November has to offer me.

*My husband. Ok, he's always an "In". He is the most romantic person I know!! (that's why I married him). He took me to Atlanta to see my favorite band this weekend.

*The smell of warm vanilla and cinnamon. Something about this time of year...

Outs:

*Prices at the grocery store. It seems like every time I go grocery shopping I buy less but spend more.

*Curly hair. Its out for today. I'm just highly irritated with my hair, so its going strait for a while. But on a positive note, it is getting pretty long.

*Rude shop workers. I love to shop, and nothings better than shopping, finding a deal, and having a SUPER nice shop worker help you out. Lets just say I haven't encountered the holiday spirit yet while shopping.

*The new Gap commercial. I don't know why, but it really rubs me the wrong way... I cant explain it.

Hello there!

WOW! So I knew it had been a while since I had last posted on this blog, but I didn't realize it had been THAT long. I guess my motivation had kinda dwindled over the past few months to do any postings on this blog. Alot has happened over the past few months, so let me catch you up.

I had mentioned in one of my earlier blogs that I was working on "embracing my inner domestic goddess". I think I have blossomed into quite the domestic diva. I wouldn't say I have made it to goddess status yet, but I'm working on it. We moved into a new apartment in August. It is bigger and updated, all new appliances etc. Having more space makes keeping a clean and neat home soooo much easier. Now I feel as though everything has a place and its all not just piled on top of each other. I think I wanted so badly for our home to be neat and organized, and realistically, living in 700 square feet- it just couldn't be up to the expectations that I had. But now its much much easier. I've done ALOT of cooking. You can check out my food blog The Eating Experience to see what I've been cooking. I have tried so many new recipes and feel like I have excelled so much in the kitchen. I've always been a good cook, but I've always cooked the same stuff. I've become alot more adventurous here lately, and discovered alot of new things that my husband and I like.

I've been to Florida a few times. For those of you who don't know, majority of my family still lives in Florida. The most recent trip was for my Papa's funeral. This was my Mother's Father. I've never lost anyone that close to me. I lost my Great Grandmother a few years back, but it was much expected. She was very old and had suffered a few strokes. I miss her, but that loss was not as hard as loosing my Papa. Papa was only 70. He was in bad health, and we all knew he wouldn't live much longer, but he still passed way before we thought he would. I think about him every day. He was a Marine who served 2 tours in Vietnam and a life time police officer. His funeral was the most respectful display of honor I have ever seen in my life. He was buried with full Military honors and we had more police escorts that I had ever seen in my life. I miss him dearly, but count myself very lucky to have witnessed a funeral like his. He was such an incredible man.

I'll be headed back to Florida in a few weeks to stay at Amelia Island. I love Florida in the Winter time. The weather is perfect. Of course, we probably wont be doing any swimming. Last year we tried, but it was FREEZING!!!! So we will probably just enjoy a few walks on the beach and maybe stick our toes in the water a few times, but that will be the extent of it.

I registered for school. Everything is final, all I have to do is buy books. This is HUGE for me. I decided to scrap the beauty school idea. It just wasn't realistic for me at this point. Maybe in the future, but for now, I need to be a bit more practical. I will be completing my accounting degree. I should be finished by May of 2011. By that time, I hope to be starting a family as well.

Hello... Hello!

I have been MIA for quite sometime in the blog world. I have a million and 1 reasons/excuses... but I'm only going to give you a few of them.

First of all, I have been out of town just about every single weekend since the last weekend in May. I can honestly say I have ENJOYED my summer. Most of these weekends I was out of state, but a few were shorter trips. I've made 2 trips to Florida (once by myself for my cousin's bridal shower and once with the hubby for my cousin's wedding). I've been to Winston-Salem with some friends, Columbia SC and this past weekend was spent in Murphy NC with another couple who are friend of ours. And... I do have plans for this weekend and next. This Saturday I will most likely be at the lake, then out with some girls for dessert and pedicures. Next weekend we are tubing in Hendersonville NC with some friends. GEESH! I feel like I spend the beginning half of every week recovering, and the last half of the week gearing up for the next excursion. But no complaints- I have had a GREAT summer! I plan to take my "vacation" in September, so weekend trips seem to fit into my schedule quite nicely.

I have had a few things that I've been wanting to post. One of which being a swap that I did with Kelly of Happy 1234. She sent me some wonderful goodies that I have sooo been enjoying. I took a picture and was going to post last night- but my Internet isn't working at home. I uploaded the pictures to my home computer and now cant send them anywhere or do my post. SO that will have to wait until the computer gets fixed. I've also been quite crafty here lately. I made some jewelry and even a skirt. Hopefully, this week I will be making my first sewing machine purchase.

And in all honesty, my interests have been slightly shifting here lately. I will always be a makeup and beauty geek, for sure. But my biological clock has been awakening other interest in me, much in the more domestic field. At first, this seemed like a fleeting thing, almost like an experiment. One of those "I'll do this until I get board" type of things. But I've found I absolutely LOVE cooking new recipes, I TOTALLY enjoy crafting and making things. I even have found some joy in organizing and planting... WEIRD- I know! All this was topped off with the "talk" I had with my husband last night that went something like... "I want a baby". I've wanted to wait until I was thirty to have kids, but I will be 27 this December.... and maybe I don't want to wait so much longer. We'll see where that goes.

With all this- I also wanted to let you know that I have started a new blog called The Eating Experience. This came to mind while I was enjoying all this cooking, then feeling guilty for eating it. I have been overweight for the majority of my life and have done some sort of diet, well just about always. I've lost 60lbs in the past 1-2years and I'm very happy with that. I would love to loose more, but I'm way burnt out on the whole counting calories thing. I'm sure alot of you know what I mean. SO- I have given dieting the middle finger and said SCREW YOU to Mr. Calorie counter. I've resolved to dedicate myself to a fair amount of exercise, and never count a calorie again. Yes, I will continue to eat healthy and make sensible decisions. But by God if I make brownies, I'm gonna eat one- and not feel the least bit guilty. So- this blog is basically a picture journal of what I eat, recipes I make, Food prep tips, and pretty much anything food related that I think is post worthy. I have maintained my weight pretty well without any super strict dieting and I get asked alot, what do you eat. I wouldn't consider what I eat "diet" food. But, I usually make a pretty healthy decision when eating... usually. Maybe this blog will help inspire you to make something different, give you ideas for packing lunches (I usually bring my lunch to work), or just help you decide to eat healthy and tell your diet to shove it! I hope you check it out and ENJOY YOUR EXPERIENCE.

I've always loved the look of a pretty headscarf with long flowy hair for the summer time. Well, I don't have the long flowy hair, but I do have a few pretty scarves. However I'm not sure if I can pull it off with my short to medium length hair.

What do you think? Is this a look you would wear? Do you think I can pull this off with shorter hair?

Olive Cholesterol hair conditioner: I purchased this in CVS for $2.99. It comes in a huge tub and looks absolutely disgusting. I remember when I was little, my mom used to always put Cholesterol conditioner in my hair to keep it moisturized. Being a "curly girl" I am prone to dry hair, so in my quest for the perfect conditioner, I decided to pick this up and give it a try. It works great. I use this many different ways. About twice a month, I put a very generous amount of this conditioner in my hair, top it off with a shower cap, and let it sit for 30 min to an hour. I then rinse it out and viola... soft moisturized hair. I also have just used this as a regular conditioner. I've even put this in a spray bottle mixed with water and am currently using this as my leave in conditioner. Either way works. Its also great to put on your ends before you jump into the swimming pool. Its thick, but wont cause any weird foaming in the pool.

Artistry Tinted Moisturizer: I've been using this since the beginning of Spring. Prior to that, I had never really had any interest in a tinted moisturizer. I've seen many reviews on a few different brands out there and became very curious. During the summer, my skin is about as ideal as it ever gets. I tend to get pretty dark, and freckle a bit. I'm a big fan of freckles and hate to cover them up with a high coverage foundation. I gave the tinted moisturizer a try and now I'm hooked. It offers just the perfect amount of coverage for the warmer seasons. I may even try to stretch this into the fall and winter depending on how well my skin behaves.

Sally Hansen Insta-Dri Fast Dry Nail Color: I have always had a habit of painting my nails right before I go to bed. This usually results in nice skin like patterns pressed into my nail polish in the morning. You would think, after how many years, that I would have tried a fast dry nail polish. But no... So I gave this brand a shot and it works pretty good. I'm a fan of the color selection, and I really like the other Sally Hansen nail polishes. It works pretty good. It dries in just a few minutes so I can go to bed, and not worry about the little patterns that I'm going to wake up with in the morning.

Embracing my inner Domestic Goddess: Ok, I know this isn't a product or even beauty related, but this has been a big part of my month. I've been married for over 6 years now and have never really taken any concern with the "domestic" side of being a wife. Sure my house isn't filthy, and yes I do cook most days... but I never really took that extra effort to cook a GREAT meal... or go into alot of detail when I clean or organize. My husband isn't too concerned with that stuff anyway. But the past few weeks, I've been trying to be a bit more domestic. I started growing some plants. I even bought a rosemary plant (yummy). Ive reorganized my kitchen, kept the house at an almost spotless level and... I've begun a mission to make something I've never made before every single day for a week. I started this on Thursday. I did good Thursday and Friday... but not so much on Saturday or Sunday... So I'm going to tack on a few more days to my week. So far I've tried out a few new recipes that I will most definitely been using again. So this is my beginning to becoming a domestic diva.

If you've been following me for any amount of time, or if you have read any of my past posts, you know how much I love to accessorize. Well this weekend I took a trip to Florida to attend my little cousin's bridal shower and meet the groom to be, who happens to be a tattoo artist.

So lets just say I came home with a few "family gifts". :-)

I'll do a post later this week to show them off. They are still a bit swollen and will look better by the end of the week.

But what I want to know is: Do you have any tattoo's? Where? and what kind of meaning do they have to you?

I stumbled upon this website a few months ago. I cant remember how. It may have been someone else's blog post, or possibly something in a magazine... I really cant remember. Either way, I was immediately smitten with these hair accessories. Each one is one of a kind, and absolutely beautiful. The prices are a bit out of the range that I am willing to pay for a headband, but I have drawn great inspiration in looking for and creating my own hair band masterpieces.

-deciding not to go to the gym so I can have an extra 2 hours of cuddle time with the hubby.

-Grilling... I have discovered this weekend... I am the Grill QUEEN... be jealous, be very jealous!

-House sitting. Its like a mini vacation, but free- and I still have to go to work. Ok its not like vacation... but its still fun.

-Laying in the sauna. I was skeptical at first. And a bit miserable sweating my self to death... but after some investigation on the benefits of sweating it up in the sauna, and practicing some relaxation techniques... I LOVE it!!!

-Small outdoor weddings... so fun! makes me wish I'd have done mine a little different.

-My skin... Lookin good today... I didn't even wear any concealer.

-Leggings... Ok, I swore I would NEVER participate in this trend. (I have painful flash backs of side ponytails, feathered bangs and bright colored high top sneakers)... but I actually purchased a pair this weekend that look somewhat sweet on me. I haven't worn them yet, and I'm not sure that I will have the guts to- but I own them... and that's a step.

-The beach... its calling my name... 4 days and counting.

Out:

-All the negativity in the news. I would love to turn the news on and see a report on a GOOD kid or GOOD parents that did something GOOD for their community rather than killings, church burnings, and car crashes. I know that this stuff happens, but GOOD happens every day too. Report that!

-Work... I'm feeling very uninspired lately. I need a vacation!!

I snatched this off of Steph's Stuff. She tagged "everyone" and well... I do fit in that category. Besides, I haven't done a tag in a while, and it looked like fun!!

WHERE ARE YOU FROM? Originally, Florida. However, I have been living in South Carolina for about 12 years now.

WHY DID YOU START BLOGGING? I had considered making YouTube videos, but my camera is crap for video. I came across blogging as my YouTube obsession grew and figured I could do this. I've always been obsessed with anything fashion and beauty related. I plan to attend cosmetology school in January, but this was my outlet in the mean time. I work a very non beauty related job and needed a place to be creative. Besides, I have learned so much from blogging and reading other blogs.

WHATS THE MAIN AIM OF YOUR BLOG? It originally started as a creative outlet. It remains that, but it has also been a great way for me to become a part of a "beauty community". I can ask questions, learn stuff as well as share what I have learned. It's really been a great experience.

WHATS YOUR FAVOURITE BEAUTY BLOG? I definitely cant narrow it down to one. I don't even think I could narrow it down to 10. Each blog that I subscribe to contributes something of value. On Wednesdays I like to do a "I cant stop reading.." post. Each week I feature a new favorite. I am always finding new blogs and youtube channels that become "favorites". :-)

DO YOU MAKE YOUTUBE VIDEOS? Nope.

WHY? I used to want to. But to be honest, there are so many. I'm sure I could contribute something of value- but most of the bases are covered with the guru's that are already out there. I think I will stick to blogging for now.

WHO'S YOUR FAVOURITE YOUTUBER? Oh goodness. This goes the same as the favorite blogger question. I truly can not narrow it down.

HAVE YOU PARTICIPATED IN A MAKE UP SWAP? Yes, I've actually been a part of a few swaps. Each one was a fabulous experience. As soon as I save up some more money I hope to do more. I should be receiving my package from Kelly this week and I am so excited. Every time I talk to her she is "adding something else". I'm sure she has gone above and beyond!!! (I may just have to send her a little surprise as a Thank You!!)

ARE YOU MORE ABOUT SKIN/HAIR/MAKEUP/NAILS? I would say I am pretty equal across the board. Maybe with the exception of skin. I have never been "excited" about skin. Only because I have never had trouble skin, and taking care of my skin was always a natural occurrence. I never really thought about it, I just did it. I guess because I haven't had any issues I've never really been in pursuit of a "miracle cream" or some great new technique to clear up my skin. But I've always been obsessed with the other 3. I'm more into my hair now than I ever have been (and that's ALOT). But I love LOVE makeup and NEVER go out without nail polish or chipped nails. ;-)

WHATS YOUR FAVOURITE BRAND? I'm always finding something new that I like. I have used Artistry for years, and will probably never put any other type of skin care on my face. I love it. As far as cosmetics, I have just recently been experimenting with drug store brands. I really like covergirl.

WHATS YOUR MAKEUP MUST HAVE? Mascara. I will go out with out makeup anytime, but I like to have a bit of mascara on.

WHATS YOUR HAIR MUST HAVE? Aussie Sprunch spray. If I could only have one styling product, this would be it.

CURRENT BEAUTY OBSESSION? Right now, my hair. I just recently stopped flat ironing it. I have got the most gorgeous curls (not to toot my own horn). I just cant believe that I have been straightening these my whole life. I have spent hundreds of dollars on conditioners and styling products just in the last month or so. I'm completely obsessed.

ARE YOU HAPPY WITH HOW YOU LOOK? Yes. I've never lacked for self confidence. I grew up with parents that ALWAYS raved about how beautiful I was, even to perfect strangers. I don't mean to sound arrogant or conceited, but I am pretty. I may not have the most "bangin body", but I have a pretty face, good features, and a good proportion... And I have confidence(not arrogance), which is my most attractive trait. I come from good genes though- So I have to thank my Momma! (actually I should Thank my Dad, I look more like my Dad's side of the family).

I love seeing new blog posts from Hele Says... When I see a new post, I know I am going to get my daily dose of sophistication, beauty info or fashion how to's. I obviously don't know Hele personally, but she seems like such a classy gal. I lover her outfit posts, Always getting new ideas on how to put together an outfit from her. She also posts great insight on higher end cosmetics. Her and I differ in style so much. That is the reason that I enjoy reading her blog. Her posts make me think outside "my" box. Her recent nail posts have me drooling over new nail polish colors that I "have" got to add to my collection. You can always expect a thorough review when she reviews a product. Accessory Haul

Ok, I must admit. I have a fairly large collection of accessories. Everything from headbands to bangles, earrings to chokers. I'm totally addicted. I guess I can blame this on the fact that I do like to wear rather plain clothes. I prefer a cute cut in a neutral any day. I guess that's why I LOVE accessories. I'm even known among my friends as the great accessorizer.

There is a little store about two towns away that has some of the cutest, most inexpensive costume jewelry. This is a major danger spot- I cannot leave with out at least 10 items in my bag. I try to go there only when I am shopping for someone else, that way I only purchase5-6 things for myself. I seriously have so much that it will take me a life time to wear it all... (just don't tell my husband... as far as he knows, you can never have too many pairs of earrings).

I figured I would share my binging experience with you guys. This latest Binge I have to say was strongly influenced by Anna at The Style Diet. She wears some of the most adorable accessories. After watching a few of her videos, I just HAD to have some new accessories. Hope you enjoy. Let me know if you have any questions. I cant stop watching/reading Wednesdays: The Style Diet

I have recently become obsessed with Anna, the most adorable stylist, who hosts her Blog and YouTube channel, The Style Diet. I'm sure most of you have run across her and hopefully follow her. She is a breath of fresh air in a "Beauty Blog" filled world. Lets face it, Makeup related blogs and YouTube channels are a dime a dozen. Fun and fabulous, but there are so many. While this is a great thing, I have not come across many, if any truly great blogs, let alone YouTube channels that focus mainly on Style.

Anna has a very eclectic style, and incorporates this into most of her blogs and videos. She does a great job of putting together outfits, fully accessorized, for herself and friends.
I blame her alone for my recent spending spree on accessories. I had forgotten how much I love chunky funky jewelry until I watched her accessory haul.

My favorite thing about Anna has to be that she is always a flowing fountain of useful tips. She has done posts on body type, seasonal trends as well as great posts of outfits she has put together for individuals. She has an incredible eye for style, and an adorable personality that lends to the "addiction" factor of her channel.

Check her out ASAP, your closet will thank you.

Disappearance Act!

Ok, I know I have kinda disappeared. I haven't blogged in about 2 weeks, which isn't like me- Even when Im busy. I have been somewhat busy, but have just been feeling kinda blah lately.

I have alot to blog about, alot of catching up to do, and ALOT of hair product reviews as well as some other fun stuff. I am working on a contest. I know I spoke about this many moons ago. It is coming. There are currently so many FABULOUS contests out there, and I don't want to compete with anyone. I want to make it something fun and creative- so I am stretching my mind to come up with something.

Every Wednesday I will be featuring my favorite Blogger or YouTuber of the week. This week I'm featuring Kandee Johnson. She has both a fabulous blog and YouTube channel.

What I love most about Kandee is her personality. She is so bubbly and fun to watch. She really seems like the type of person that you'd want to be friends with. Not to mention the fact that she is a professional make up artist that has worked on Movies and TV sets. I love watching her do make up. She makes it seem so simple and easy. Her tutorials are always easy to follow and fun to watch. Today I did the Nicole Richie Make up look- liquid eyeliner.

Kandee also does great videos on how to Cut Tee shirts. I've always been fascinated with taking a piece of clothing and manipulating it to make it unique. I've been cutting shirts for years, but love to see her suggestions.

I definitely recommend you give Kandee's blog a look, and check out her YouTube page as well. You wont be disappointed that you did!!

Secret Swap has Arrived!!

So Tuesday was off to a rough start. I wasn't swamped at work, but very frustrated with what I was working on. The weather was ick. As the day progressed it wasn't getting any better. Right as I was leaving work it began pouring rain and even hailing. Nice, as I'm wearing very clean white pants. What a day. When I got home I saw that I had multiple packages at my door, but only one really interested me. Immediately I perked up! My secret swap. I didn't have to guess... As It was written right on top of the box. Oh the anticipation. All the way from Hawaii.

My secret swapper, which is Courtney of CourtCosmetics, left an adorable note in the package.

Look at all the goodies, all of them Hawaiian themed.

The very first thing I noticed when I opened the package was the smell. It smelled so lovely, like fresh flowers.
Exactly how I would imagine Hawaii to smell.

I got a bath bomb in the sent "Champagne and Roses", bath crystals in "Coco-Papaya" and Bling Bath Dessert in "Lolai Blossom". All of them smell so yummy. I do love bubble baths and like to take at least one a week, so these will definitely get used very soon.

She also sent me an adorable Hello Kitty Paradise nail file (you can never have too many of these), An adorable Hello Kitty hair bow, and yummy marshmellow candies (I cant wait to try these too).

I cant wait to wear this with a pair of denim shorts a white tee and my pink converse tennies. How cute!
She also included this adorable eyeshadow pallet that has a nice range of "tropical" colors.

She also sent me 2 nail polishes in a pretty purple metallic and beautiful creamy coral color. Paired with them were 2 lippies, each just about matched the nail colors.

Courtney definitely had me figured out when she put this together. I love EVERYTHING that she sent me and I am SOO looking forward to using these soon. Thank you Courtney, everything is so lovely. I can tell you put alot of thought into the package. I LOVE how everything is Hawaiian themed. Thank you Thank you Thank you!!

Product of the Week: Aussie Sprunch Spray

I've come by alot of products since my "curly only" vow began about 2 months ago. I've styled my hair curly EVERY single day since then, and have tried many products in the process. There aren't many that I have come across that I would "swear" by, and even fewer that I would keep in my daily routine. But the Aussie Sprunch Spray is a tried and true curly staple that I will always have on my bathroom counter.

My mother used this product on my hair when I was little. I have great memories of the purple bottle of hairspray that smelled fabulous. Years may have gone by, but the smell, and the pretty purple bottle still remain as fabulous as the formula. I use this product on my hair when it is wet, to define the curl. Then I use it again once my hair has dried to shape and hold the curl. If I could only use ONE product on my hair (Lets hope that never happens... but if it did) I would grab this. Its quite versatile and has the ability to coax a wave out of even the straightest hair. Many of my straight haired friends like this product to achieve a messy beach wave.

I think my most favorite thing about this product is the smell. Its a somewhat grape/berry smell that is heaven. Its not so strong that it is overpowering, but alot of times people standing close to me will ask, "what smells so good", and it usually is my hair.

I cant stop watching...

Hey guys! I decided to start a few different "series" on my blog. One of which being "I cant stop watching/reading". I was kind of inspired to do this after watching the "Share the Love" video that Magpie Sparkles did. I know I have mentioned her several times on my blog, but you should definitely check out her You Tube Page.

In her video, she basically just talks about some of her favorite YouTube gurus and promotes their channel. I loved this video because so many times you see YouTube guru's begging for subscriptions, 5 stars etc. Not that asking you to subscribe is a bad thing, but sometimes it can become a little bit daunting. I know there are special little perks along the way when you get so many subscriptions. And believe me, I know the personal satisfaction of knowing that so many people are interested in what you have to say. I don't have that many followers, but my mind is still blown that total strangers are interested in what I have to say. I thought it was such a nice gesture to promote someone else's channel, with nothing in return expected. Yet another reason why I'm constantly glued to Emma's blog and YouTube channel.

SO, this gave me an idea to promote one blogger or YouTuber a week. I'm constantly finding new blogs to subscribe to and new YouTube channels to get hooked on, and I want to share them with you. Some of the channels that Emma promoted, I had never heard of, and am so glad to have come across. I feel enlightened... So I would like to do the same for you.

The very first "I cant stop watching..." is none other than Emma of Magpie Sparkles. I figured I have already promoted her enough in this blog as well as a few past blogs. Why am I always glued to Emma's page? Emma exudes a type of style and confidence that I envy. She follows the beat of her own drum. I have never seen her "conform" to whats trendy, but makes her own trends and styles, and she always looks fabulous. She offers great tips and tricks, as well as very insightful reviews. Every video of hers that I have watched, I have come away with something useful. And of course... I love her cute platinum blond bob (I'm so envious).

Therefore, I encourage you to check out Emma of Magpie Sparkles YouTube page. I promise you will be instantly hooked.

Its that time of year to be on the look out for the perfect swimsuit. To be honest, I hate swimsuit shopping. I'm a curvy girl, with ample umm... boobies... (can I say that), as well as an ample tush. Most trendy bathing suites are made for those with a flatter chest, no hips and a flat derriere. Of course I want to stay modest, but its hard to find something that my chest doesn't pop out of and my booty fall out of.

I came across an adorable suite on Modcloth.com today. I'm absolutely in love with it. It seems to be curve friendly, and the color is just up my alley.

I find this suit absolutely fabulous. What suites are you eyeballing this season?

My trip to the post office...

Ok, so a trip to the Post office is not so exciting. It honestly has been the most glamorous part of my day. I'm having a horrid hair day. Even my attempt to conceal it with a headband is looking rather crappy. My outfit is definitely nothing to write home about (Mondays are usually the sloppiest days of the week for me). I'm sunburned and glowing a nice shade of "watermelon pink". Then to top it all off, my manicure is crap because I decided to bleach all that was bleachable in my house last night.

So, now that I've complained and gotten that off my chest... :-)

No, its really not that bad. It definitely could be worse! I found out late last night that an old high school friend lost his brother to a car accident early Sunday morning. I knew his family very well. It bothers me more than it probably should. I just know that this is a good family, with good morals and values. Just genuine "good people". I cant imagine having to bury a son, or even a brother. He was only 23. I think what bothers me most is what I read in the paper. Apparently the accident happened at 12:30am, but the accident wasn't found until after 9am that morning. I cant imagine him just sitting there for over 8 hours. Whether he died instantly or not, it just breaks my heart that he was alone for that long.

Well, I didn't intend for this post to be depressing... I was going to tell you about my trip to the post office. This was the very first time I have EVER been to the Post Office and didn't have to wait in line. I was so excited, until they brought out the "dum dum dum..." custom forms. Our government is so nosey. The girl at the counter was quite nice, which was also a first for my Post Office visits.

So there is the most random post I think I have ever posted... Just my thoughts for the day I guess. I hope to do an outfit of the day tomorrow. I picked up some new tops from Anne Taylor Loft over the weekend. Very darling, and very spring. I hope to wear one tomorrow.

I'm also trying to come up with some other ideas for this blog. Is there anything in particular you would like to see more of. I'm up for anything really.

Goodies from a far off land...

Earlier this week in the mail, I got 2, yes 2 packages from out of the country. My husband looked at me like I had gone completely mad as I squealed like a child in complete glee.

The first package was from the beautiful Nadia of Love Lipstick and Lime. You should definitely check out her blog. We had done a small swap about a week or so ago. She sent me the infamous Gosh Darling lipstick, along with a few other goodies. I had seen this lipstick a million times on You Tube and mentioned in Blogs. It was like getting my hands on a rare diamond. I was completely blown away at the quality of the product as well as the packaging. As far as I understand it, Gosh is a Drugstore brand. My opinion, is that the lipstick I received is very good quality. It reminds me of something I have worn in the past. The consistency and smell... I have never been a big lipstick wearer, so narrowing this down isn't really that difficult. I think it reminds me of either Clinique or Jane lipsticks. These were really the only two brands of lipstick I wore much in high school and college. Needless to say, I love it. The color, texture... everything. THANK YOU NADIA!!!

My second package came from LilyLoLo in the UK. After watching a review on her products done by Magpie Sparkles, I became obsessed. I am an avid mineral makeup user. I swear by the stuff. I don't think I will ever use anything else (even though I did order some tinted moisturizer to give a go). I was drawn in by the under eye concealer and the corrector. I immediately went to the website and ordered a sample of the under eye concealer, the corrector and a blush sample. I Love each of these. I definitely will be ordering a full size of at least the under eye concealer. I am not going to do a full review on these products. I linked Magpie Sparkles review at the beginning of this paragraph, she does a fabulous job of reviewing the products. I believe she also uses their foundation (don't quote me on that one). Check out her review and subscribe to her channel, she is darling. If you like mineral makeup, you should for sure give Lily Lo Lo a shot.

Like most of you, I love getting packages in the mail. So this definitely made my week. I am totally enjoying the concept of swapping. I think I have just as much if not more fun putting packages together as I do receiving them.

Goucho Pants... a DO or a DONT?

I was out shopping this weekend and my attention got stuck on a pair of these black gaucho crop pants. Almost identical to the ones pictured above. My mind immediately went back about 2-3 years ago, when I owned a pair of jersey knit black gauchos. I wore these EVERYWHERE. They were so comfortable, and seemed appropriate for anything. I could wear them with flops and a tank, or dress them up with a nice top and heels. I could even pair them with a baby tee and tennies for a jog around the park. I LOVED these pants and their versatility. I don't remember why I got rid of them. Most likely it was due to the fact that they were jersey knit and I wore them so often. They probably started fading and looking kinda rough.

The pair of gaucho pants I picked up this weekend are a much nicer fabric. Not silky, but much nicer than jersey knit, and still more flowy than polyester. I thought they looked fabulous in the dressing room. So yes, I did buy them.

However, when I got home, it struck me: These were HOT years ago. Are these a trend that has faded away? I honestly haven't seen many people wearing gaucho pants recently. I had a moment of remorse and thought about returning them. I searched frantically but couldn't find the tags. I think they were attached to the pants by the alarm sensor, and when the cashier removed the alarm sensor, she removed my tags as well. SO I am stuck with the gaucho pants.

I guess I am writing this to ask you what your opinion is on gaucho pants. I wore them today with a fitted baby tee in neon yellow and a basic pair of flip flops. VERY casual. I am trying to find looks that will bring these pants into a more modern, dressy casual type of feel. I saw a pic with a pair of black gauchos, fitted white tee and suspenders. These were paired with a cute pair of basic black pumps. Hmmm...

So what do you think? Are gauchos a clothing item best left in the past? Should I retire them to gym use only? Or do you think I can pull these bad boys into 2009 successfully? And if so, what would you suggest I pair them with?

Ok, So I haven't been keeping up with my weight loss for a little bit tooo long. I have slacked SO bad.

But this is a new week! Today I started over, and am working on getting back on track. I will not be posting any of my weight loss blogs on *Stars in my Pocket*. But If you are interested or curious, Please check out the blog that I dedicated completely to journal my weight loss issues and anything health related. Hopefully this will aid in keeping me more accountable, and maybe inspire a person or two. What's your style?- I would call it fairly simple with a few surprises. I tend to stick to mostly black and neutrals. I like to jazz things up with accessories, makeup and hair. I tend to keep the colors very simple, but go for fun and exciting cuts and fits. Its hard to make a mistake that way.

What is your most challenging goal right now? - getting back on track with my weight loss.

Whats IN today?

-Being back on Eastern time. Even though its only an hour time difference, Texas has me all messed up.

-Swapping. I LOVE to buy gifts for people, and I am LOVING this whole swapping thing. It makes me so happy putting together these packages. There is something about it that makes me smile really big!

-Coral nails. I have FINALLY found the perfect coral nail color!

-MagpieSparkles you tube vids. I just think she is adorable!!! If you don't subscribe- you definitely should.

-Konad Nail Stamper. I think I need one of these.

What is OUT today?

-Not seeing my hubby for almost a week. I cant wait until he comes home tomorrow.

-The shopping in SanAntonio TX. The only good thing I found was a Forever 21.

-Cleaning and Grocery Shopping. Lets just say I'm not in a domestic mood.

-Not sleeping. I'm not sure if it is just being out of town for a while, or not being with my husband... but I cant sleep very well here lately.

-Not taking care of my body. I haven't been to the gym in over 2 weeks and haven't really paid much attention to what I have been eating. Its time to get back on the band wagon.

Outfit and FOTD

I love reading what people are wearing, it often gives me inspiration. So I figured I'd give you a shot of what I'm wearing today. This is a VERY typical outfit for me. Black or neutral top with Jeans. That's pretty much my day to day outfit. I tend to stick to Black, White, Grey or a tan color. I figure I have more than enough personality that my outfit doesn't need to be too loud. LOL. Actually I'm a big fan of black... I really just think you can never go wrong with a predominately black wardrobe. It also gives me allot of freedom with my makeup and accessories. I don't have to worry about anything competing with my outfit.

So here it is. Top is from Anne Taylor Loft, Tank is from Victoria Secrets. Jeans are a pair of Lane Bryant Wide Legs I got for Christmas 2 years back before I lost all my weight. They have been altered twice now. I LOVE them so much, but don't think they can make it through another alteration. I'm probably going to have a burial ceremony for them in the next month or so... :-( I got the shoes from Ross, a local discount department store. They are my summer staple. Just nude wedges with a cute little bow. They go with pretty much anything and everything. And as some of you know, I have a bow obsession (I'm currently on the hunt for some bow stud earrings...)

I really focused on my brows... I may have gone a bit overboard, but don't really know... Whatcha think?

REVIEW: Lipsticks

I went a little nutso this past week buying cosmetics. Well, after seeing some of ya'lls haul videos, maybe not as nutso as you would think. I am a frequent purchaser, but just one or two things here and there. So I bought in a bit of a bigger volume this week. That just means that I have to lay off for a little while, maybe...

I dont usually pick up lip items. I think that is why I was drawn to the lipsticks this time. I almost always wear a very neutral lip. I have been looking for a great Nude. I found a nice one, bust still not EXACTLY what I am looking for. I also came across a few other really nice colors that I had to put my grubby fingers on.

Crystal Cut Coral, Just Enough Buff & Subdued

Artistry Lip Color in Subdued. Retails for $15.40. Subdued is a neutral creamy brown. Its not a mauvey brown, or a plumby brown... Its just brown. I ordered this off the Internet, and I must say that the swatches are NOTHING like the product actually looks. But then again, when are they every. I thought I was purchasing a darker nude and was very surprised when I opened my package a few days ago. At first I was kind of upset, and planned to send it back. But the more I looked at it, the more I thought I could make it work. And I did. I don't have anything else in my collection like it, so I'm glad I decided to hold on to it. It looks LOVELY with a pink gloss over top, or even paired with a red gloss. The product has a very nice texture. Very creamy, not drying at all. And BONUS, there is no horrid scent or taste. The product is advertised as moisturizing and "is clinically proven to reduce fine lines by 70% in as little as two short weeks." Hmmm. Over all, after the color shock I would rate this 5 stars.

Rite Aid had a BOGO on all Revlon products. I picked up two of their lipsticks. I picked up Moondrops Lipstick in Crystal Cut Coral (700), and Super Lustrous Lipstick in Just Enough Buff (613). The Moondrops was $8.99 and the Lustrous was $7.99, but of course I got the Lustrous free. The colors are FABULOUS. The crystal cut coral is a frost. Its a bit bright, but will look great paired with a simple eye. The Just Enough Buff is a beautiful nude color. It is a cream, but has some golden reflex in it. It looks great on its own, but looks even nicer over concealed or "erased" lips. Reminds me of something lollipop26 would like, very nude and creamy. The texture of both of these is very nice. The Lustrous is a bit more creamy than the Moondrops. However, there is a pretty awful smell and taste to the Moondrops. It is tolerable. To me anyway. But it reminds me a bit of my great grandmother. So if you are sensitive to smells and tastes, I would pass on the Moondrops. Over all I would give the Lustrous a 5 star, and the Moondrops 3 1/2 stars.

Ok, I have collected quite a few goodies over the past week. Among these are several different kinds of mascaras, 4 to be exact. Expect a review coming up on that one. A few lip sticks, some mineral makeup and a beautiful pallet... Oh, and some hair care items. So I will have a few reviews to do on these products.

I am also thinking of doing a contest. Not sure exactly what yet. If you have any ideas, please list them in the comments. I may give out something pretty if I use your idea.

I'm also hoping to incorporate some more fashion into my blog. I have kinda neglected this area. So expect to see some more of that.

Hair accessories...

I wrote off hair accessories when I lopped off my locks about 7 years ago. However, I continue to collect them... I love little bobbles, heabands ect... but always thought they took over my entire head when I have short hair. What are your opinions on hair accessories and short hair? Leave it to the long hair girlies, or can us short haired chics participate. Any suggestions?

Review: REDKEN Ringlet 07 Curl Perfector

Would it be too much to say "Love at First Sight"? I've been on the hunt for the perfect curly hair cocktail. Early last week I wandered the isles of Ulta for about an hour, picking up various products, reading their instructions intently, pacing the isles with them in hand, and then returning the product to the shelf. Some of these products were priced pretty hefty, as I was concentrating my search in the salon brands for the most part. Committing to a full size bottle of something that I had never used before was a little daunting... especially with my experience of being let down by so many curly hair specific products.

My hair has a unique curl. Or at least that's what I always thought until I did further research. I have between a 2C and 3 B curl... In other words, my hair ranges between a tight wave and a loose spiral curl. I have very fine hair, just loads of it. I had always assumed that curly hair was supposed to be coarse and thick, but my hair never fit into these categories. I had always picked up products that were made for the more coarse and thick curly hair... pastes, creams and thick gels. All these ever did for me was weigh my hair down and make it crunchy, and even nasty feeling. So to invest $20-30 in a product that was just going to be a major disappointment was a little on the difficult side. Not to mention the fact that my husband, as wonderful as he is, looked absolutely miserable as I picked up each and every product only to return it to its shelf...

Then I made my way back to the Redken section. I love to get my hair colored with Redken products, so I figured why not. I had hoped to find something in the curl exclusive lines, like Devacurl or others similar. But as I perused the Redken shelf I stumbled across a line of products that were in this beautiful silver and black packaging. I'm a sucker for clean lines. I picked up the first thing I saw with the word "curl" in it. Sounded promising, but once again, $22 bucks for regular size bottle. Then fate smiled... a travel size... only $4.

I immediately snatched it up, along with a few other travel size hair products and made my way to the check out stand. What happened over the next few days was incredible.

NEVER in my curly headed life had I experienced a day where I could fix my hair in curls and not have a bit of frizz... that is until I picked up this product. It perfectly defined my curls, restored a beautiful glossy lustre to each ringlet and provided a perfect medium hold that left each curl soft and not crunchy. I was, and still remain amazed.

This product also works great to refresh your curls. After sporting a hat, or perhaps sleeping on your curls. Just a small amount of this product between your palms, and a bit of scrunching, and you are back to perfect just styled curls.

I would describe the consistency of the product as being in between a serum and a lotion. Its runnier than a typical hair lotion, but a bit thicker than a typical shine serum. My hair is a little above shoulder length, so it doesn't take much to give my curls a good coating. The travel 1.8 oz. will probably last me about 3 weeks. Not to mention it is PERFECT for traveling.

There is no strong sent in this product. It does have a "smell". But I cant seem to identify it. It is very subtle and once it is in your hair, you cannot smell it anymore. This is great, as it wont fight with my perfume.

This is definitely a Holy Grail product. I plan to purchase both the full size and the travel; one to keep at home, and one to throw in my purse.

I am still on the quest for a good Curly hair conditioner, leave in conditioner, hair spray, and shine serum. I know I probably don't kneed all of these products, but its nice to have them on hand for different looks. Any suggestions, or requests for reviews? Just leave them in the comments.

Curly or Strait, a guys preference...

Ok, I'm not here to argue which one is better. My personal opinion is that God knows what he is doing and gives us all what makes us beautiful. But I recently read an article at Glamour.com arguing whether men prefer a woman with strait or curly hair. The argument goes something like this. Men prefer straight hair because they like a woman that looks put together, and like hair that they can slide their fingers through. Or... Men like a woman with curly hair because the unkempt wild look of curly hair evokes the adventurous side of a man, thus making the woman more appealing. Also that curly hair tends to look more "natural". (think Botticelli curls). Well, I cant argue with either of these points. Straight hair does tend to look more professional and put together. Curly hair can look professional as well, but will always look less "put together". Curly hair is more wild and adventurous. As far as having hair that a man can put his fingers through... healthy, taken care of curly hair can be just as soft and easy to finger as straight hair. But what does a man prefer?
Personally in my experience, It depends on the man. Each guy I've dated has had a vastly different personality, and each one had a different preference that somewhat matched that personality. My husband likes my hair both ways, but seems to pay more attention to it when it is curly... I also noticed that the type of hair a man likes is tightly linked with the type of hair his mother had. I once dated a guy that LOVED short hair. This is usually very rare as most men prefer longer hair. Then I saw pictures of his mother, and it all made sense. My husband's mother had long wavy hair. And yes, my husband prefers very long curly hair. This theory was proved to me once again last night. I babysat for one of my best friends. As I was putting her 3 year old to bed, I leaned over to kiss him on his forehead and tell him good night. As I was bent over the bed, he reached up and touched my hair and said, "I like your pretty hair". It was a very sweet tender moment. (this kid has already stolen my heart). That stuck in my head for hours, as I remembered the article I read about what a man prefers. And then it struck me, his mother has curly hair. How much do you want to bet that when little Sammy grows up, he ends up with a woman with curly hair. Out of the mouth of babes... Its amazing that these things start taking shape in a boys life at such a young age.
I cant end the argument of what a man prefers... But I can say that each man is different. And If you have straight hair, your bo probably loves that on you, and if you have curly, he loves that too!

My Hair decision!

About a week or 2 ago, I posted a blog about wanting to change my hair. I just felt it was time for something different. So I spent hours among hours searching for hair cuts, styles and colors that I liked. I was totally torn between what color to choose. When I look back at pictures, my dark brown hair compliments my skin and eyes so well, but there is always that allure of going lighter, blonder etc. So, against my best judgement, I had blond highlights put in, and the base color of my hair lifted to a lighter warmer brown. CAN YOU SAY ICK!!! It made me look so washed out and sallow. So I got a box dye and colored it to a "mahogany brown". TOO MUCH RED. It wasn't an auburn color, but I think the blond underneath brought out the red undertones WAY too much. Finally I decided a rich Espresso Brown is my perfect shade. Its not "different" from the color I normally sport, but it is in fact, my perfect color. So, I'm back to good ole' espresso, and I am falling back in love with it.

Another thing I am falling back in love with is... my curls. I was born with a head FULL of dark luscious curls, and since I was old enough to hold a blow dryer, I have been blasting them strait. I remember when I was little, I had hair down past my shoulders with perfect ringlets... EVERYWHERE I went, ladies would stop me and tell me how beautiful my hair was and how lucky I was... "People pay hundreds of dollars for a head of hair like that". I heard it multiple times daily. But I always HATED my curls. I learned how to blow them out, flat Iron them, and obliterate them into stick strait locks. Alot of my friends don't/didn't know that I even had curly hair. But in my search for a new style, I came across some really cute curly styles that I actually liked. As I proceeded with my search I began to discover websites dedicated to those of us referred to as "curly girls". I became totally engrossed in alot of the sites, sitting for hours upon hours reading about how to properly care for and style naturally curly hair. My conclusion was that I hated my curls only because I didn't know what to do with them. I got my curly hair (and hair color) from my dad. My mother had strait hair and really had NO clue how to style and care for curly hair. Many times as a child I would end up with a big frizzy mess that looked like it had just stepped out of an eighties movie. I hated it. And of course, my dad, being... we a dad, didn't have a clue what to do with curly hair. So I was just very uneducated. I decided to box up my flat iron, put away all my brushes, invest in some good "curl" products, and put some of this new found knowledge to use.

And the verdict is... I LOVE MY CURLY HAIR! I have found a hair style that I really love (I will post a pic at the end). It is curly, and perfect for my type of curls. It is going to take some growing out, so I will have to be patient. The hair cut I have right now looks great with my curls, I just need a little bit of texturizing done (which I will probably get done tonight or tomorrow).

I've discovered that using the proper products and methods suggested for curly hair really does make a world of difference.

As I have fallen back in love with my curly hair, I have only had positive experiences... such as:

-I get complimented EVERYWHERE I go, just like when I was a little girl...

-I don't have to worry about getting stuck in the rain anymore, it wont make me look like a frizz ball if my hair is styled curly.

-I get to share my knowledge, people are always asking me how to fix their hair.

-I really want to help others with curly hair discover how to care for, style and maintain their natural hair so they don't have to spend hours frying and damaging their hair.

I'm so excited, it sounds almost ridiculous! I start cosmetology school in August. I always thought that my area of focus would be color. I have always wanted to be a colorist. But now, I believe I want to be a curl specialist.

Ok guys, I know its been forever... I haven't posted a weight loss update, or anything else for that matter in FOREVER!!!! Some of you that follow me on twitter know that my Mom was rushed to the emergency room last Tuesday night. She is doing MUCH better, thank you for your thoughts and prayers. She came home from the hospital yesterday evening...
Work has been crazy busy and that always filters into my personal life as well.
BUT- I have not forgot about you guys. I have actually been more excited about blogging over the past few days. I have had so many ideas and thoughts that I am looking forward to sharing with you guys. I know I said that I will be posting a curly hair care and hair product blog, it is still coming. I have probably done about 9-15 hours of research on this. As well as invested mucho money in products to review... I know I know...
Also, the weight loss blogs are probably going to become a once a month update. I have kinda plateaued, and not enough is going on in that category to blog about once a week anymore. I have alot of other ideas that I have been working on, and cant wait to share with you guys. SOOOO... I hope everyone is having a great week. Tomorrow is Friday!! YAY!!!

Need a change...

Ok, So I need a change with my hair. I have been sporting different variations of the "pob" for the past 2-3 years. I've always gone for a more edgy hair style as well as color. Im thinking of maybe a softer more "romantic" look.

I dont want to cut my hair, mainly because it is in the process of growing out. Right now it is almost shoulder length, longer in the front and shorter in the back. Its a very dark brown at the moment. My natural hair color is a very dark brown.

This week I started parting my hair down the middle and letting the pieces around my face kinda wave out. (think Olivia from the city, but shorter). As much as I absolutely dispise Olivia, I LOVE her hair.

I am mainly trying to make a decision about my color. I have almost always opted for a black or purply type red, Edgy... I want something that is going to make my hair look softer and maybe enhance my curl. I would like to go lighter for spring and summer, but I cannot figure out what color will look best on me. I'm not afraid of anything really... I'll try anything once. I do want to stay away from reds and yellow blonde.

Weight Loss Phase 2 week #10.

I lost about another lb this week. Not alot, but I know I worked hard this week, so I'm not worried about it. I've been to the gym almost every day this week, and haven't indulged too often in those most wonderful forbidden foods. I upped my cardio at the gym. Almost double. Now, I do about an hour on the elliptical. I also doubled my reps when I do weights, but cut back the amount of days that I do weights. I'm only doing weights 3 days a week now, instead of 5. I am spending a little bit more time on cardio. If I am not doing weights, I will do an extra 20-30 min on the treadmill or bicycle (depending on how wore out I am). I do need to work on my water consumption. I was doing really well for quite a while, but just in the past few days, I've kinda fallen off of the wagon. I've rediscovered a wonderful alternative to ice cream. I thought I would share since it has a fraction of the calories and fat, and tastes so yummy. I keep a tub of fat free whipped cream in the freezer. When I get a sweet tooth, I eat a few spoon fulls of the frozen whipped topping (tastes like a very creamy vanilla ice cream). I notice now that I crave the whipped cream more often than I crave ice cream now. I think that is about it. Nothing too interesting. I am about 12 lbs from my goal weight. I keep joking that after I meet that goal I will never diet again, but in all honesty- I will probably have to keep very good track of what I eat and my exercise for the rest of my life to make sure i don't fall back into old habits and gain all this weight back. Gaining my weight back is a true and honest FEAR. It really scares me. I guess that can be a good thing. Sometimes fear is the best motivator. Until next time Friends!!

Weight loss Phase 2 week 9.

Ok, I know its late. Good news tho- I GOT MY COMPUTER BACK!!! YAY!!

Ok, so week 9 went well. I lost another 2lbs. And again, Im starting to notice some changes in my body. My body is getting tighter and clothes are getting looser. Which is always fabulous. I did OK at the gym. We had alot of snow Sunday and Monday, so I didnt make it to the gym Sunday, Monday or Tuesday. I also didnt make it on Saturday (I chose to get my hair done instead of going to the gym). But I did ok earlier that week. I also had a somewhat weak will power this week. Nothing too dramatic, just a few cheats here and there. But I dont believe in deprevation, so who cares!! Overall I have lost 15.8lbs in 2009.

Weightloss Phase 2 Week 8.

Wow! I cant believe its already week 8!! My oh my how time flies!!
.... and yes, we did skip week 7, we are going to pretend like it never happened!

Well, I lost almost 2 lbs this week. Sure I would have loved to have lost more, but I am noticing some changes in my body. I have been hitting the gym hard, and finally getting some results. Its at this point that I wish I would have taken measurements instead of just my weight. But sometime over the weekend I plan to head out to walmart to get some soft measuring tape. Never too late right!
I went down a pant size this week. Which makes me very happy!! I'm still wearing my larger size (as I only have one pair of jeans in the smaller size). I will buy some new pants when these get too obscene to wear.
I mentioned that I have been pushing it hard at the gym. I will probably be kicking it up a notch here in the next week or so. I got a phone call from the Marketing Director, which also happens to be a very dear friend of mind, at a local bra boutique asking me if I would be interested in modeling some swim suits. I don't have any details as of yet. But It sounds like this will be in print, maybe for an advertisement or campaign or something. I don't have any details, and am not even sure if I am doing this for certain. But the thought of it does excite me.
I have always wanted to model, and did a little bit of light modeling as a kid. But as I got older, puberty hit, and I was just always too overweight to even think about it. Now that I have lost some weight, I am still generally too short to model. I am about the size of an average plus size model (size 10-12ish) but am still petite and short. I was in the boutique earlier this month getting fitted and the lady fitting me suggested me to model for them. I was super flattered and just figured she was saying that to make me feel good about myself. Ya know, if you feel good in something, your more likely to buy it type of thing.
Anyway. I'm ecstatic just to have gotten asked. But needless to say, I will be doing some extra cardio and extra crunches between now and then.
My total weight loss since Jan 1 has now totaled 13lbs. So far so good!!!

Weightloss Phase 2 Week 6

YAY!
Finally, I am able to tell you that this has been a GOOD week!!!
This was the first full week that my husband and I did the Trim system. I have liked it so far. The recipes are good, and everything is simple and convenient. I'm not a big "diet system" type of person, but it has made things a bit easier. I didn't cheat- not even once. I have gone to they gym 4 times this week, and worked out at home on the days that I didn't make it to the gym. I have been drinking LOTS of water... And... lost a weekly total of 4.2lbs. YAY! So that brings my total since the first of the year to 11.8lbs.
I have started to notice a difference in the way my clothes fit. They are not falling off yet, but things are getting looser. I can also see a big difference in my stomach and arms. MAJOR boost of self confidence.
My husband has lost about 5lbs. The scale fluctuates frequently with him. I was so proud of him. This is the very first diet he has ever been on, and he didn't cheat at all either. He has been so good with his exercise too.
All in all- it has been a good week. A very good week. I'm looking forward to getting back with you at the end of the next week to let you know how things are progressing.
